Perfect for joining Billy Bookcases (instructions in review)
The media could not be loaded. Bought the 36-45mm size to join 4 IKEA Billy bookcases together.Worked perfectly.The female (sleeve) part won’t span the entire width of both bookcase side panels. They will penetrate far enough that the male (screw) can still make suitably secure contact once tightened.Procedure:1. Line up two Billy bookcases so that the front and top of the two side panels (of the two bookcases) you want to join are perfectly flush.2. If you’re confident you can hold them in position with one hand, while using a drill with your other continue to step 3, otherwise get a second person to hold them or use a clamp.3. Choose one of the existing, pre-drilled pilot holes meant for attaching the shelves and with a 6mm drill bit, drill from one side (widening the hole) and on through the side panel(s). If everything is lined the drill should emerge from the corresponding pilot hole in the other bookcase.4. Push in the sleeve section of the screw set into the newly widened hole from one side and tap home with a hammer, so that the whole of the sleeve is in and the head of the sleeve is flush with the side panel.5. On the other side you may find some ‘blow out’ from where the drill broke through. Just push this back into place with your finger. The head of the screw section will usually hide this.6. Place the screw section in hole on this second side until you find the thread on the sleeve tighten all the way until there is no gap between bookcases.I would recommend 3 of these screws for each two bookcases you want to join. One at top, one at bottom and one about mid way.Just remember wherever you use one of these bolts, you will sacrifice that specific pilot hole, so you won’t be able to use it for shelf.
