Great shoes, well made, well built, and comfy on the feet.
A great shoe, well made, great construction, and feels solid. As you'd expect from a Merrell. As others have stated in reviews, there does seem to be a sizing issue on these ones - with other Merrells I've had before I just order my normal UK 11 and they're perfect - but given the amount of people saying order at least a size larger, I did just that, and I'm glad I did. I went for a UK12, and they fit like any other 11 (for my feet, others may differ). Had I ordered the 11's, I fear they would have been a bit clippy on my feet. So well worth ordering a size up from your normal. This could be an issue in mis-labelled stock, or American sizes that have been shipped claiming to be UK etc. Who knows.....but you don't normally get this kind of thing from Merrell, so it must be an error of some kind. Other ones I've had before have all been fine, and sizing consistent. Overall though, sizing issue aside (which I'd averted thanks to other commenters) they're a fab pair of shoes capable of all weathers thanks to their chunky and grippy soles. Thumbs up.

the leather has spread nicely making them definitely wide enough
First the size. I am a UK 9.5, or Euro 43.5 wide fit. Based on other reviews I bought the UK 10.5, Euro 45, and it was the right choice. They may be a fraction too long, but this enabled the wide part of the shoe to line up with the wide part of my foot. I was keen on the design and thought I'd order these despite not expecting them to be wide enough. But they're okay, and having had them for a year, the leather has spread nicely making them definitely wide enough. These are very comfortable and very tough. I often wear them all day, whether in town or going for a walk. They are fine on rugged terrain and way more than just a trainer. They look the part too. The perforated leather and understated colours go well together, and they age well. They're fine with shorts, jeans, outdoor trousers etc. The only part I don't like is the back, but it's a minor point.

Best looking Merrell walking shoes ( blue wing)
Always liked the look of these Merrell shoes particularly in the blue/green of these blue wing version, but reviews were very marmite, some people love em and have bought multiple pairs, others are critical of build quality, durability and bizarre sizing ( too small generally) so I’ve steered clear. Now that they have been around for almost 20 years they can be picked up for around £80 to £90 ( rrp is £135) so I’ve dived in with a pair of 9.5 size (usually a 9) and they are a perfect fit, 9 would have been too snug, size 10 probably a bit sloppy in the heal. If you are a snug fit in your usual size I’d go a full size up, otherwise a half size up should be spot on. I think the size issue is because they are a narrow(ish) fit in the toe box and you need the extra sizing to give yourself some wiggle room in the width rather than the length. They look and feel solidly made with a great sturdy supportive sole and a mixture of thick soft leather and textiles on the upper. Love the colour combo on this blue/green version and the laces really make them pop. I have high hopes for comfy summer hill walking in these ( they are designed to be very breathable so don’t expect much waterproofness. There is a GoreTex version for that apparently) I also think Merrell are possibly phasing these out because most retailers only seem to have very small or very large sizes, which would indicate low stock. Amazon are one of the few places selling all sizes at a good price.

Poor quality.
Size 14 is a good fit. But the heal is not a good shape so your foot slips. The leather is a nice blue to green. But the quality is not there. The sole unit is starting to separate after two months where the shoe bends as you walk. Not worth the original price and not really worth at discount. I would send back if I could at this point.

Great long lasting walking shoes.
I have just replaced my last pair of Merrell intercepts which were bought in 2017 and used as a daily shoe as well as a hiking shoe. I can highly recommend these shoes but you do need to buy a size larger than normal as they come up small (I'm size 11 U.K. and 12 fits perfectly). I only had to replace my old ones as the sole was finally wearing thin. The uppers were still in excellent condition and are very strong and well put together. While these aren't advertised as a waterproof shoe I can honestly say my feet have never been wet or cold in these and I have found them great for year round use including some very muddy walks and hot summer hikes. One of the most important things for a walking shoe is comfort and these won't dissapoint- after a couple of walks they seem to mould to your feet perfectly and for me they have been a joy to wear.

Not made to last
I bought these to wear casually (to work, around town) and have worn the daily for the last 10 months. I wanted something fairly stiff as previously I'd been wearing Skechers and my feet were tiring easily even after a couple of hours on my feet and "proper" walking shoes appeared to fit the bill. I chose these due to brand reputation and because I thought they'd look reasonably smart with jeans. Initially, I could feel the pressure on my instep but they quickly broke in and were really comfortable once they did. Things went smoothly for around 9 months, then they started to feel less supportive, more like like slippers and one of them developed an annoying squeak which I had trouble tracking down because externally they weren't showing much wear other than expected tread wear. Eventually I tracked the squeak down to one of the heels, both of which appear to have lost structural integrity like the heels are soft and hollow. I'm fairly heavy at over 19st, but I've never had any shoes give up on me without also showing obvious signs of hard wear and particularly not walking shoes. I contacted Amazon, explained the circumstances and they offered me a refund or replacement, which I accepted, so full marks for Amazon customer service (as always). I chose to accept a replacement despite the failure because there aren't many walking shoes I've found that I think are smart, that fit me (I'm a UK14) and that keep looking smart (all that I've had to do to keep these clean is to wipe the toes with a damp cloth in the winter) and I'm hoping that my last experience was a one off. Bottom line, 4/5 for the shoes, 5/5 for Amazon customer service. == Update 16/08/17 == After 3 weeks the replacement pair started to fail in the same way and are gradually collapsing. I think these are great shoes, but not suited to heavier individuals. Perhaps my gait has changed, but nonetheless I'm disappointed with these. == Update 8/10/17 == Giving up on these. Not only do they feel squishy now, but the rubber on one of the toe pieces has split and the glue that holds the sole to the upper is separating. This is the second pair, they've barely lasted 5 months and it's not as if they've been used for hiking.
