Southern Cooking Handbook
When the author, Robyn Stone was a child, her family lived on a farm. Both parents worked, so she and her siblings spent a lot of time with her grandparents. It is here at the Georgia farm that she learns about cooking from her grandmother. The lucious food that is part of this cookbook, had its beginnings, and were changed or suited for Robyn's needs. This is a wonderful cookbook, filled with such delicious looking recipes.Ree Drummond writes a forward about her relationship with Robyn and her fondness for Robyn's blog and her food. Robyn picks this up with her story, and then discusses how she has set up the cookbook. There are nine chapters of food and recipes. A couple of pages on how to use the cookbook which I found a fascinating and really functional method of using the book, and then the author's recommendations for cooking essentials. A full book that will leave you running to the kitchen to whip up some of this food. The author has provided Smart Sidebars which include suggestions and helpful hints. Tips for sharing southern hospitality, leftover makeovers, hints on how to make an easy recipe and then make it company fare. How to lighten up the recipes, like using yogurt instead of mayonnaise, and how to make ingredients you may not have on hand, e.g. Buttermilk. There are icons for 30 Minute Meals, 10 items or less meals, freezer friendly and slow cooker meals end this section. And then onto the food, from from Starters and Snacks to Southern Pantry. Many recipes enticed me, the Oven Fried Green Tomato Caprese starters were my favorites. Lulu Belke Lemon Meri blue Pie looked scrumptious, the roast chicken and then leftover makeovers, and the traditional southern dishes lightened up for today. The photographs by Helene Dujardin are bright and colorful and depict all of the recipes discussed. The recipes are written in such a manner that we feel the author is talking just to us. I collect cookbooks, and this one will stay out on my cupboard while I try many of the recipes.Recommended. prisrob 03-29-17

Good Southern Cookin’
There are some very tasty Dixie Recipes, but it is such a pity that decimal (gram) measurements and °C temperatures are not included.
