Great book, can save the average race driver money. The book explains the jewels in race preparation, from years of the authors experience. Makes race preparation easy.

If you are an amateur racer on a budget and you don't own this book, you don't know what you're missing.. There's a reason this book has been in print and in demand for decades - it's just good solid advice. Front to back he tells it like it is, and tells you what works.Carroll does a great job of giving you areas to examine on your own race car (regardless if it's Open or Closed wheel) and where you can improve reliability and performance. Both of these go hand in hand to helping you be more consistent and spend less money each year..There is a wealth of shop techniques for those who don't like to (or can't afford to) be the "throw money at a problem" type of car owners. Once you own this book, you will find yourself going back to it often.Also, there is torrents online of some of Carroll stuff, but do the guys memory some honor and just buy a real copy from his family (which this is), he's given a wealth of information to us lesser racing folks. (my public service for the day.)

It's a little dated, but full of good information. Recommended reading for anyone who does race car or street rod assembly and preparation.

I enjoyed reading it, at times dry but it needs to be, you're absorbing a ton of information. The title explains it well, you'll be learning how to prepare a race car for the track

Every gear head needs to read this book. Carroll Smith is a icon for meticulous race car assembly and preparation.

Great book. A little bit over my head at times, but very interesting. Anyone who has an interest in the technical aspects of race cars should definitely get this.
