Are these dark enough to look at an eclipse?

You would need a number 14 lens to safely view a solar eclipse. My colleagues and I watched one from a foundry parking lot in Sedona using several welding hood lenses each adding up to 14 or 15 with no ill effects. We just took them out of our hoods and the (supply cabinet) and piled them on top of each other until we got to the proper value. Then we held them over our eyes by the edges of the 2 to three lenses.

They are awesome for plasma cutting and for just about any metal work.
