Finish-Free Knits: No-Sew Garments in Classic Styles

Can't Wait to Start Knitting From This Book
This book provides patterns that are both finish-free and beautiful. What a wonderful combination! There are so many I'd love to knit. There is the Ease Tank, "worked entirely with knit stitches (no purls!), a few decreases and a few buttonholes". The Bliss Tunic is one of my favorites. Knit in purple sportweight yarn, it incorporates cables, lace panels, wide ribs and garter stitch. It is absolutely stunning. The light orange Honor Pullover utilizes short rows to shape the ribbed collar and there is some waist shaping. This is a wear whenever sweater. The Grace Cardigan in green features side to side construction. "The sleeves and lower body are bordered with pearl brioche switch". The golden hued Trust Pullover is primarily knit in stockinette stitch. It is a casual sweater and looks quite warm.Overall, I love this book. While there are a few patterns that don't call out to me, the majority are wonderful and I can't wait to give them a try.As with all knitting books, I ask three questions:Are the patterns easy to read?Do I want to knit the patterns in the book?Is the book a good resource.I answered yes to all three questions.

Beautiful Patterns AND Inspirational Techniques
Most knitters have not only yarn stashes but stashes of almost finished sweaters and other projects that require blocking and seaming. It is knitting's dirty little secret: finishing is an art in itself, albeit a tedious one.No Finish Knits provides not only lovely, useful patterns to make with creative construction techniques that require no seaming but provides them in good yarns that are either available or easily substituted. The patterns are classic and useful with wonderful lace and cable details and manage to incorporate current style trends while remaining classic. The designs are also good for all ages, being neither too old or too young. The construction techniques are astonishing and inspirational. Every pattern in this book deserves to be carefuly read, especially by budding or experienced designers. Not all of the techniques are easy, but they are all translatable to other designs. These are very useful construction techniques and deserve to be used more often. Perhaps not every garment can be totally seamless, but many garments can eliminate some seams resulting in a higher ratio of finished projects. The instructions are clear and well written and include charts and schematics as well as written directions. The usual appendices of cast-ons, bind-offs and increased and decrease methods used in the projects are included as well. This book is a treasure trove and is in competition with Knitter's Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters: Basic Designs in Multiple Sizes and Gauges for my favorite knitting book of 2012. Beautiful, useful, instructional and inspirational.

Finish-Free Knits -- a Knitter's Dream
Like many knitters, I like to knit. Period. I do not like to sew things together. I once had a dozen projects knitted and stored in plastic bags, waiting until I felt like sewing them up. Which was, like, never! Bit by bit, from other sources, I learned many of the techniques covered in this book, and now I am only interested in knitting projects which are designed to be finish-free, or which I can re-design to be finish-free. This book is a great help. The only reason that I gave it just 4 stars is that the projects are basically for ladies; although they are very nice projects, I don't knit that much for myself. I knit for crafts sales, and for grandchildren, and most recently am seeking a pattern for a sweater for my husband. Otherwise it is a very helpful book, with clear instructions and good illustrations.

Interesting read
This book has inspired me to try my own versions of finish free knitting. Most of the projects in the book were ones I admired, but not necessarily ones I wanted to make. But the techniques are interesting and I have applied them to items for my children. One sweater and one vest I do definitely intend to try soon! I'm happy to have this on my knitting shelf. It's all tops, primarily sweaters and vests with one dress and a shrug. A variety of lace, cables, and even a fair-isle sweater, as well as some projects geared for a beginner such as the ease tank which uses only knit and purl stitches.

Lovely, elegant garments
I tend to rate knitting books by a few criteria - how clear and understandable are the directions? how many of the designs would I actually contemplate making myself? and how unique are the designs - how many of them are something I haven't seen before? On all of these, this book rates quite well. Flipping through it, I saw many designs I wanted to make, and several that were unique and special. The directions also seem quite clear, and I see ways I can modify them to better fit my own figure. Overall, this is a good book and worth buying. I can see myself using it over the years, making different garments or modifying patterns to create my own looks.

Fantastic patterns
I had never heard of Kristen TenDyke, but the title of this book intrigued me. I love to knit, but detest seaming and finishing. The book starts with simple seamless patterns, and progresses gradually to more and more complicated techniques, but all are explained in detail and with wonderful pictures. There are probably only 4 patterns (out of twenty) that I would not make. The instructions are all clearly written, with multiple size options, schematics, and charts. Beautiful color pictures showing all angles of the finished products abound, making the book beautul as well as useful. There is a sizeable stitch glossary explaining several techniques used. I am very pleased with this book and happy to add it to my knitting library.

lacks clear instructions
This book is a nice tutorial, but before you get here, you'll need a bit of experience. The explanations on the patterns are not crystal clear. They can be knitted easily but the directions remain in the mystery category which is such a shame. Do you start from the bottom or do you start from the top? The patterns are classics yes, and will be around as long as we wear clothes, easily adaptable to new trends.

Interesting designs with minimised sewing up
One of the reasons I got this book was because I liked the designs. In the end, your view of it will be coloured by how much you like the patterns. The book assumes that you are not a complete beginner and are prepared to try a range of techniques like short rows & deal with less coventional pattern formats. The instructions are reasonably clear & logical. This is a US knitting book, so it uses US terminology like binding on, but it does give metric needle sizes after the Imperial and does have a good glossary. Also, yarn weight names, recommended yarns are likely to be different if you are a Brit. If you are prepared to read the patterns a few times before plunging in, like a knit that needs a bit of thought and au fait with yarn substituation and checking tensions you will like this book. Some aspects of the designs also allow for an element of customisation to suit your wishes and to optimise what wool you have available.
