Why is this even required? i already power my firetv sticks via the usb port on the tv's that have them. nothing special is required.

Firestick requires up to 1amp to run properly but a lot of TVs only have 0.5amp USB ports. This device means you can run the stick on those less powerful ports

Why doesn't this ship to northern ireland? the "learn more" link suggests this item can be shipped anywhere in the world, so why not ni?

They won't ship battery packs to charge your phone, but they'll ship you a replacement battery for a cordless dyson hover???? What's the difference where both batteries. Amazon stop discrimination against us Northern Ireland people!!!

Just received mine and the fire tv stick won’t turn on properly, turns on for a few seconds then switches back off, is the usb power cable faulty??

The instructions suggest that you charge the mission USB for 30 minutes before using on TV. I suspect you just need to get some power in it. Connect to plug or laptop and see how you get on before you return. Good luck.
