This is an awesome product. It makes upgrading from IDE to SSD so simple. My vintage Compaq Presario R4000 laptop runs so much faster and quieter than before. Windows XP never ran so quick. 😊. My old XP software runs so much better.

This is an outstanding product. I was able to successfully restore and upgrade a vintage (1999) Compaq Armada M700 laptop with a 64 GB Mini SATA SSD which fit perfectly into this enclosure and in turn, the enclosure into the computer's IDE HDD bay. The machine is now running smoothly on Linux antiX, which I'm using to type this review. Highly recommended!

There are different "colors" for this product. I got the "black" which is actually a white mSata to IDE adapter. It looks like the reviews for entirely separate products all get grouped together. This review is of the "color" that allows for adding a mSata drive to a laptop IDE connector. It works great. I had no problems installing or setting it up. Everything fit and aligned properly. I was able to replace an aging laptop harddrive with a SSD using this. With vintage computers you have to be careful about hard drive size compatibility but I had no problems. I had initially thought that the white cover looked 3d printed but up close I don't believe it was. I don't have any benchmarks on speed. Subjectively, I thought this would boost performance more than it did. However, it could be the SSD itself, or more likely, due to the IDE bus. So I cannot blame the product here. But be aware that this might not be a magic speed boost. Overall I am happy with it. There aren't a lot of options for this kind of upgrade so it is great that this exists.

there were some stability issues when using with a usb3 adapter, but a change of port cured that (not uncommon with pata drives on usb adapters). not able to access the s.m.a.r.t. and such of the kingston mSata drive I put in it, nor the ability to update the mSata's firmware, but achieved 90+ MB/s on the read & write to the mSata over usb3. will update once I have a chance to test in a direct pata install. will see if it can make a really old 2.8Ghz P4 with 1GB of ram usable at all, vs the mechanical 5400rpm drive - which takes many minutes to boot. docked it a star because of needing another adapter/enclosure to be able to update firmware on the mSata SSD. EDIT: via the pata connector in the laptop (toshiba a25-s307) dos could see the drive an its contents, but I could not make my clone bootable, nor could i get a fresh install of xp to the point of booting.

Works great, I paired this with a Transcend 128GB mSATA SSD and used Macrium to image the old drive and restore it to the new one. I put this in an old Gateway 7422GX laptop running WinXP.

I bought this for a Compaq Armada 7770DMT. I was greeted with error 1782 disk controller errors and the laptop hung. If you have a 486 or Pentium 1 based Compaq, don't buy this. It won't work. You might be greeted with foul beeps that can be heard through all of New York. I was able to get this drive to fit and work in a Compaq EVO N600c just fine. That laptop runs Windows XP like a champ with this adapter. It was plug and play. For the heck of it, I tried the drive in a Panasonic Toughbook CF-48. If I didn't use the housing, the drive was plug and play. The drive wouldn't physically fit with the housing. Check compatibility if possible before purchasing. Don't buy it if you have a 486 or Pentium 1 based Compaq. The lone exception may be the LTE 5000 series as they use a different BIOS from the rest of the Compaq laptops from that era. Update: This adapter is a no go for the LTE 5000 series. The drive will detect fine, but the laptop will hang when booting from a Windows startup disk if there is a partition of any kind on the drive.

These are great. I use them in some of my old Macs to use mSATA drives that will last longer than their old crusty spinning rust PATA drives.

Combined this up with a 128gb drive and stuck them in to an old Dell 2650. Windows XP loaded super fast and aside from any limitations the glorious P4 or max amount of ram the laptop has, it worked great. I did it to find out just how nicely someone else's project went from many years ago and that I found while doing a Google search for something not even fully related. Anyway, this thing has done awesome and I look forward to remembering what old programs ran in XP. Should be a blast.
