Home Style by City: Ideas and Inspiration from Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Copenhagen

This book is fascinating and beautiful if you have an open mind. I just got back from spending a week at a B&B in Venice Beach and I can tell you that the Los Angeles chapter is spot-on and completely accurate as the 100-year-old bungalow I stayed in was decorated exactly like the book chapter on LA. I have also seen plenty of places in New York that look like photos in the book. The other chapters I can't judge since I haven't been to Europe recently. If you want to see what homes in these cities often actually look like, get this book. If you want a book on classy decorating, then this isn't the one for you. I LOVE this book and treasure it, especially after my Los Angeles trip.

I'm so disappointed in this book. I bought the Kindle edition for my iPad and was so looking forward to reading it. Based on the description, I thought it would provide insight into the way people live and decorate their homes in various global cities. There is little to no discussion of decorating in other countries, except for a 1 or 2 paragraph description of a city's culture and history in the beginning of each chapter, which I did enjoy. Instead, it is a poorly written and scatterbrained compilation of gimmicks, bizarre suggestions and stereotypes for achieving a certain "vibe." For example, for a "Parisian feel," the author recommends stringing paper flowers over your bed (?), leaving flowers to die in their vases (??), and/or hanging lingerie on the wall or in a window so that passersby think that you intended to wear it but instead had to leave in a hurry to do something else with your busy life before having time to put it on. Umm...I'd venture to say that most people aren't looking to imitate a contrived foreign lifestyle, myself included. I highly doubt anyone in Paris actually lives that way, either. I just wanted to learn more about decor styles around the world. Would not recommend and I regret wasting the money on this book.

Really enjoyed the aesthetic of these spaces, but after a while they begin to look too similar. The book describes different cities and their interior influences, but sometimes it fails in my opinion, to truly capture the essence of that city, and instead looks similar to a space in another city in a previous section. Love that the author gives tips and ideas though, helping to bring some of that cities style into your own space.

Just what I love! Insightful and lyrical descriptions, lovely photos, and a cohesive layout. Just my style. I’m a boomer and appreciate current trends + antiques + makers.

Lots of great ideas, divided up by several city styles, so you can pick your favorite. Generally do-able and not too high end. Also has ideas for flea market shopping in each of the cities featured, in case you're able to go there.

Another book I often visit when I need some good ideas. Truly inspirational.

I loved the Book!

I am very disappointed by this book. There are no real pictures of Parisor any other cities mentioned here. The few pictures of the so called interiorsshow old furniture which could be placed anywhere and do not showany style of any of these cities. The Parisian style is quite distinct anddefinitely not anything shown in this book.

Inspiration from cities in the world... it can help to decorate your home in one of the styles..Usefull and inspiring

Very disappointed with this book.Not an interior design book. Not a travel book either.Unhelpful photos as we rarely see the whole of the room, so difficult to see what the result/effect is.I didn't find any inspiration in this book. Unfortunately.Très déçue par cet achat.Ni un livre de déco ni un livre de voyages.Des photos qui ne révèlent pas grande chose car on ne voit pas les pièces dans leur totalité.Je n'y ai trouvé aucune inspiration...Hélas.
