Great player
This is the second one we purchased for the same individual and they are still very happy with it. They live in a nursing home and find it easy to use. These are used daily for multiple hours so the fact the first one lasted so long, is why we purchased it again.

It has worked for more than a year so far; I dislike the zoon level # remaining on the screen.
This Panasonic DVD player works; however, I wish the zoom level number didn't stay on the screen. Seeing that number on the screen annoys me, so I don't use the zoom feature. My previous Panasonic DVD player had more zoom levels available and showed no zoom level reminder on the screen. It worked great for nearly two decades before it stopped properly reading a couple of films I purchased at Amazon. I thought it was likely due to a dirty lens. I tried two different brands of auto lens cleaner to no avail.I'm sorry I replaced my former Panasonic DVD player with this one.

Great unit (if you take good care of electronics)
Make sure you get the model that has the HDMI out as well as RCA cable connection (S700). A couple of things:1. ONLY use the open/close button for the door--DO NOT push the door with your fingers. It's not sturdy enough for that.2. ONLY remove a DVD by placing your finger in the DVD hole. The drawer does not have cutouts on the side for your fingers and you could break the mechanism.3. I have the RCA cables hooked to my receiver and the HDMI cord hooked to my TV. The RCA cables fit VERY tight--make sure they are pushed in snugly or you will have problems with sound/picture. If you're having trouble with picture or sound, the first thing I would suggest is check to make sure the RCA Red/White/Yellow connections are pushed in all the way.4. I would highly recommend only adults use this DVD player--it's not sturdy enough for kids or others that don't take special care when using electronics.5. MAKE SURE you read in the manual how to get to the settings. Some will need changing. On mine, the factory setting for picture size was set to 4x3 (for old square TVs) rather than 16x9 (newer recantangular TVs)6. The remote is very compact/small with lots of close-together buttons. If you're older, you're probably going to have to hold it very close to choose what you want to do.7. I've thrown all kinds of media at it--store bought DVDs, home-burned DVD-R and DVD+R. No problems with any of them. I have not tried using it to play CDs so I can't speak to that.8. It's a nice, compact unit and light weight. I'd make sure it's not sitting too close to the edge of where you put it--I don't think it would survive any kind of fall.9. It came with an RCA cable (Red/White/Yellow) but NOT an HDMI cord so you'll need to get a cheap one of those. The batteries are included for the remote.10. Picture quality on my TV is excellent. Sound through the receiver is excellent as well.

YES, IT PLAYS CD's WELL
I have been struggling with a 20 year old Sony 200 disc carousel CD player for a few years now, cleaning and re cleaning CDs, using a "lens cleaner" disc, etc, etc, with marginal results. So, I decided to use the Sony to store and catalog 200 discs for accesss and but a single disc player. Unfortunately, as most find out, audio component CD players are absurdly expensive and VERY overpriced. I was about to pay more than $200 for one until I explored the option of buying a DVD player that plays CDs. I was skeptical, but recognized that the market for DVD players is declining as fast as the market for CD players did. I bought this one, paying about $30 from Warehouse Deals. I plugged it in, connected the audio out jacks and MAGIC. Not only did it play the discs but coupled with my Yamaha CD direct and pure sound receiver, it played them far better than the Sony ever did. Unless you are in need of a player which can read the most expensive discs, do not hesitate to buy this one. Panasonic is a great company and has pride in nearly everything they produce (with the exception of their sketchy history on bluetooth earphones), and this simple, inexpensive device is no different. If you need a component CD player and want to save some money to apply to speakers or a receiver, etc, do not hesitate. Try it. I predict you will like it.

Choose Another Brand!
I have to give this one a low review. One it doesn't come with the cord needed to go in back of your TV so either have one or go but one. Two is really the reason why. It's the worst DVD player I've ever owned. It takes a long time to load and start playing. Also each time you want to put in a DVD even if playing more than 1 DVD, if you want closed captioning you have to select it. You basically are restarting everything each time you want to hit play. If you hit pause or replay/ fast fwd too many times it will tell you the DVD cannot be Read or it will say No DVD when there is clearly one in there. The remote is small and the buttons are too close so if you select the wrong button you're likely to start the DVD over... That's if you can get it to play again. Honestly I have DVD/ VHS combination that is 21 years old. It plays way better than this one. Quality today is down the drain. The manufacturer should be giving this one away for free. Don't waste your money. This is a true review. I still have time to return mine and I think I just have to.
