A game-changer for Degenerative Disc Disease sufferers!
I'm 69 and I've had DDD since before surgery when I was 35 years of age. It runs my entire spine and neck. One of the biggest complaints with my condition is sleeping. I even purchased a top of the line Posturepedic specialty bed with a foot thick memory foam mattress and remotes and over nine different positions capable. I cannot endure an entire night's sleep due to tossing and turning. So despite my joy of sleeping beside my husband and how this bed provided RA relief for his debilitating condition, I resigned myself to the recliner on the couch. It's an ordinary but lovely leather couch with all the bells and whistles and two recliners built in. My feet hang over the end of the recliners despite only being 5' 5". They also have manual levers. The cushion on the couch is somewhat less comfy than preferred and my nights are never continuous but broken up with lots of tossing and turning. I received my XL Irene House recliner two days ago. I put it together by myself yesterday, despite a broken arm and cast (did I mention that I can be clumsy, too), and had my first night's sleep in this extremely cushy, very adjustable recliner with the extended footrest. Once I found the 'perfect' adjustment I was out, like a light, for over 10 hours! 10 hours! And for the first time in years I woke up without pain in my back or neck! This says mountains for me! Sleep is so essential for body healing, and going without truly does break down a person over time. I feel like a new person! There is so much to love about this recliner, too. The material is gorgeous! I purchased the brown leather to fit in with my leather couches, and it matches nearly identically. It arrived beautifully packaged, too! One box was 108 lbs. and with the cast I could not pick it up, so I used my legs and thighs to slide it up to my front door, then my uncasted right hand to lift it over the threshold to get it into the house. I will admit, it took me longer than 20 minutes to put together, but it has a superb manual included that simplifies the entire process. The only thing I did to assist in assembly was I used packing tape up on the leather cover flap for the back, taking it up and over the headrest to keep the flap out of the way so I could see to attach it to the seat base (I'm very resourceful). The packing tape did not harm the material at all, and barely stuck, so I had to run a long length from the corner of each flap to keep it up and out of the way as I lifted the back and inserted into the metal extensions of the base seat. I had a left wall outlet available, not right (which is how the wiring to the recliner is set up), so I did my own rerouting of cables to keep them clear and free of the base. Overall I probably spent three hours getting the unit together, but the husband was working, so I was on my own. I made sure that the base was unboxed exactly at the location it was to remain, as moving it with an arm cast would be extremely difficult. It turned out perfect in every way. I tried all the functions of the power, the massage, and the heat. Everything worked beautifully! As the dreaded darkness of night arrived, I pulled out my blanket, turned on some rainfall tunes on the TV, and prayed sleep would not only come rapidly, but that I wouldn't get up numerous times or have such pain in the morning that I wouldn't be able to walk. I was completely shocked by not only sleeping nearly 10 hours, but my back felt better than it has in years! Plus I did not get up even once throughout the night! The recliner is amazing! The only glitch I encountered was on delivery, and it was due to only one package out of three arriving. Once I contacted Irene House, they assured me the other two packages would arrive separately in the next day or two. I was relieved. They were nice and professional and responded to my email and phone call very quickly (I did both to be sure they received my query one way or the other). Overall, I am in love with this recliner. I have no idea as to durability, so I've got my fingers crossed that it will hold up over time. I cannot attest to how it may perform for heavier individuals as I am only 145 lbs. But the material is gorgeous, spotless, and very supple and comfortable. The padding is quite ample and cushy compared to the recliners on my leather couch. But to look at this recliner, you would almost be unable to discern that it is not real leather. Truly a beautiful recliner! As for cost, yes, it's a bit pricey, but I've purchased more expensive items in the past only to be disappointed with performance. So far this recliner has met all my expectations, and if it holds up over time it will be well worth every penny spent. As it is, the husband loves it too. I'm thinking he's going to ask me to order another one for him. I do highly recommend this unit. It is a quality piece of furniture that is user friendly and easy to assemble (faster for those without a cast on). The reviews were spot on for this item! Update...I recently purchased a matching chair, the Large and Tall version of this unit, for my husband. A couple of suggestions prior to assembling. First of all, the manual is super basic, relying entirely on photos that are not 100% easy to follow and can be more confusing than helpful at times. Since this item is made in another country, the English manual has numerous misspellings and confusing moments due to the lack of clarity on the photos in the manual. Additionally, there are clips on the back that, believe it or not, require to be 'clipped' or 'snapped' into their counterparts on the base. If you don't do that correctly, you will find that the back can slip off fairly easily and the back flap's velcro edging does not touch the matching connecting strip at the bottom of the base. None of this is mentioned in the assembly area beyond saying "the locking clips" at the metal affixing parts. So you see these really super hard metal 'clips' on each piece that is literally impossible to tighten by fingertip to connect inside of the slide on casing. This becomes even more difficult if you put the back on incorrectly the first time like I did. No fun fixing it either. But if you have children that will jump or play on these units that back rest will fly off in a reclined position and a child could be injured. This really needs to be addressed at the factory. Additionally, the sequence of events to connect the various color coded cords and the entire assembly of the unit is chaotic and not coordinated. I highly recommend you read it all at first, sit and observe the assembly in your mind beforehand, otherwise you will be mismatching cords, placing them incorrectly inside the unit, etc. and end up taking it apart numerous times before completion. This could be easily corrected if the time was taken to insert these various much-needed tidbits prior to assembling. Had I not done the Extra Large version over a few months earlier, I would have been very confused, frustrated, and pretty much ready to return this unit. Since I was familiar with the layout, and the first unit was ten times better written and explained on the procedure, this helped me to get over the learning curve of a poorly written manual that had many unanswered questions. Overall, the quality and performance is still superb, and comfort level is amazing! I will stick with the five stars for that reason alone!

Small & Mighty
We wanted a good quality, stylish and smaller sized BarcaLounger styled chair to fit within our mother’s assisted living residence that was easy for her to use and comfortable so that she could rest while enjoying a book or watching television, and safely fall asleep in the chair without concern for her safety (falling). The Blue Chenille fabric option was the perfect choice for our elderly mother. In addition, the technical features of the lounge chair—recline position with legs and feet up, and especially the forward-tilt feature for mom to be able to go from chair to walker—we’re huge selling features!!!! It even had massage features which we have yet to access. She loves it!We do too, as it is very comfortable for any family member to pay a visit with mom.The only downside is the manufacturer opted to ship using FedEx, and they shipped the chair in two separate boxes, so we had to wait another week until the second box was delivered as supposedly FedEx lost the second shipment.Customer service was excellent and helped resolve the issue satisfactorily. I received a response right away and felt like there was an actual human helping me. I urged them to use UPS shipping instead as they seemed to have had similar issues with FedEx.FYI: the chair requires assembly and we had the chair assembled easily by our mother’s assisted living maintenance man.

Excellent recliner for the right individuals
It's an excellent product. It's well made, it looks great, it works fine, the assembly wasn't too difficult. I purchased it to replace a manual one that was about 4 or 5 years old. I have inoperable spinal stenosis that is getting worse with age. Earlier this year I began to no longer be able to sleep in a bed. Not a regular box spring, not memory foam, not latex. One night when staggering out of bed in the middle of the night due to discomfort I went out an sat in my old recliner which is always comfortable to sit on, but I had never used it much as a recliner as I can't watch TV like that. This night I did open this manual recliner and my spine was so much better in the morning. I've been sleeping on it since June and it was less than $300 when I purchased it. Assuming that something of a higher quality, that was electric, that got good reviews, that opened longer would be an improvement. The first night on this was not good, the second better and it's been 11 nights now. It's not as soft as the old one, but my hope is I will adjust, but the big issue I am having with this is the fabric. It's slippery and I wake up in the middle of the night much further down than I set myself up earlier. I've covered it in blankets with some texture, but the same thing happens. Again, it's a fine product, but this unusual part is not working for me. If it didn't weigh 123 pounds and require me to take it all apart again, I'd return it and try something else, but that's much too big an endeavor for me. Maybe I'll figure out how to stop the slipping or I guess I just get used to it. I hope. It's really nice.12/12/24 edit: Most of what I originally stated two months ago is true, though the slipping complaint was a bit ridiculous. However, while this is a great looking chair, a comfortable chair that operates in every way very well, after two months, I do not recommend to those with spinal stenosis or in need of great lumbar support. It's not terrible, but it could be better and and my 5 year old one is for that purpose. I'd by the old one again, but the manufacturer doesn't make the model I have anymore. To repeat myself, this Irene House chair is very comfortable for people without the issue I just mentioned and it looks terrific as well.
