Go the F**k to Sleep

This book was so hilarious.

Bought this for my cousin right after she had her first baby and she literally could not stop laughing when she read it. The writing is just perfect and captures that exhausted new parent frustration in the most hilarious way possible. If you know anyone who is expecting or just had a kid this is the move for a shower gift without question. They will love you for it.

When I went to my niece's baby shower last month I found what I originally thought when I first looked at it for a VERY unusual feeding system for baby which looked like the water bottles hamster and mouse cages. After really looking at it, I realized that it was a prank box, that you put the real gift into, but when the expectant mother first unwraps it, she thinks that it is a real product, because the box has everything on it that a real product would have and a flap that tells her basically that it is a prank and her real gift is inside! That was right up my alley so I bought it on the spot. Like all Amazon's product pages, there was the section that says that if you liked the product on the page, you will also like these other products. I originally thought that the title was on a removable jacket on the book. My daughter was over and told me that there were a few of these books, and what you see is really what you get. I brought up the "Look Inside" and started reading what was the first few pages and sure enough, the title WAS a strong indicator of the story inside, but you could cover up the the part that says the title and still read the book. Again being the person that probably would do what many would be afraid to do I ordered the book to go into the prank box (relax I did get my niece several really nice gifts that were on her registry). What was nice was everybody got a laugh from the book and the box and they probably woke up a couple of the older ladies who were probably napping a bit. As I said, the story in the book is really cute and normal, basically it was the title that keeps showing up, so you could use white out for the obvious word(s) or just tape a little piece of paper over the words and then they could get a good laugh from a older child. I may be older in age, but I still have the sense of humor of a young adult. These type of gifts add some entertainment to the Baby Shower.

Great Book

I always include this book as part of a baby shower gift for first time parents. It consistently elicits a chuckle, for they think it's a cute joke; they've no idea it's really a crystal ball into their near future... but they learn pretty quickly.

Sarcastic and funny and definitely an inspiration for the snarky book I wrote for my son. Great illustrations, but definitely not something you read to a child.

Dieses Buch habe ich zuletzt sehr oft an frische Eltern in meinem Freundeskreis verschenkt, und es ist ausnahmslos sehr gut und mit Schmunzeln und Humor aufgenommen worden - es ist eben doch viel Wahres an diesen derben Reimen, aber ich würde jedem, der mit der englischen Sprache kein Problem hat, das Orginal empfehlen (keine Übersetzung)! Endlich mal ein Geschenk für die Eltern - statt immer nur für die Neugeborenen - und gerade die jungen Väter kommen sonst so kurz :)

日本語版に興味があったのですが、内容が子どもに読み聞かせるにはどうなんだろう…という感じもあって、迷ってこちらを購入しました。 私は英語を音読するのが好きなので、こちらで満足です☆ 2歳の子どもは、内容には興味なく「ねんね、ねんね」と言って楽しげにページをめくっています。 でもやっぱりタイトルがキツいので、日本語タイトル「とっととおやすみ」という表紙を見ると、ついついそちらも購入したくなってしまっています。

Very funny!

This book is not for children although my partner's six year old niece got her hands on it and all she said was there was a bold word in it! The book is a must read for any parent who has had difficulty getting their children to sleep. Although it will do nothing to help except probably bring a tear to the eye from either laughter or recognition that they are not alone! The author's frustration leaps off the page and becomes more so as the book's 32 pages go on. A really funny, poignant read - my mother thought it was hilarious. The illustrations are beautiful and worth buying the book for them alone. Enjoy!
