Oklahoma singer-songwriter on the "far side of 50" picks some good songs and does them proud.
Singer- Songwriter comes from Oklahoma and so does Garth Brooks. That connection goes back to when Brooks was just starting out and moved to Nashville taking Skinner along as part of his band. Skinner later moved to Louisiana where he me band mate Mike McClure and joined McClure's band. He apparently recorded a couple solos albums but this new one takes him back to Oklahoma for a dozen tracks that I enjoyed. Skinner wrote, and co-wrote, a few of the songs (one with fellow Okie Susan Herndon) and there are nice covers of songs by Hoyt Axton and the Rev, Gary Davis. It's on songs like the later that Skinners well-worn voice come across best. The CD contains an insert with the lyrics to all of the songs so you can follow along or see which ones are Skinner originals.Nope don't expect Garth Brook's help bent style of singing, Skinner closer to Guy Clark in his delivery.I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.Steve Ramm"Anything Phonographic"

Skinner!!!
Tom Skinner is an Oklahoma legend. A tremendous album of folk rock. A mix of originals and songs from Tom's most admired other artists, be they big stars or relative unknowns.
