This horse chestnut extract is standardized to 20% aescin. At 2 a day that's a 3-month supply per bottle. I've been taking this in the mornings with my other supplements in my wellness routine. Though most people are aware that Horse Chestnut Extract (HCE) is used for varicose veins and managing CVI, it is less well known for it's anti-inflamatory properties that also aid with hemorrhoids. One thing to note is the research I've found suggested approaching doses of 700 mg with some caution, most common dosages range from 100-150mg. However, 350 (1 pill) as a dosage is generally both productive and still within good safety margins. Note I'm not saying taking 2 is dangerous, but rather, do a couple of weeks on 1 daily and see how that goes before reaching for doing 2.For some time now I've been pursuing at home tests to verify the authenticity of supplements I buy. Its rare for big brands such as Nutricost to risk their reputation with counterfeits but I make no assumptions till I've run those tests. I performed 4 tests:Visual inspection: HCE should be a brownish color and have a distinctive earthy, nutty aroma with a consistent texture and uniform size texture. (pass).Solubility test: HCE contains water-soluble compounds, dissolving relatively easily in room temperature water and form a slightly cloudy brownish solution. (pass).Foam Test: HCE contains saponins that produce foam when agitated, shaking a diluted solution vigorously a persistent foam should form on the surface lasting several minutes. This one gave me problems. Using suggested lab values of water to extract ratio, I couldn't get consistent results producing foam, of the 10 tests I performed 4 produced foam lasting past 3 minutes, the rest ranged from 41 - 94 seconds. Not IMO a clear fail, but not a clear pass either.Starch Test: I decided to do one more test involving iodine to test for starch, as HCE contains a significant amount of it. The results should be a blue-black color indicating the presence of starch (pass).The results of my tests were for my sensibilities good enough to believe I'm getting what I'm buying with enough confidence to recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable HCE product. I've been using it for a full week now at 1 pill a day to reduce "a fire below" and in that regard, I have seen improvement.

This product is from a well-known brand that I trust. I appreciate that it displays all the great labels like non-GMO, GMP compliant facility, gluten free, and quality guaranteed. It is suggested to take 2 capsules for the 700mg dosage. A previous product I was taking only suggested half of the dose... which is what I was taking for hemorrhoid/vein support. So, essentially this 90 servings bottle could easily be stretched to 180 servings depending on what you're taking it for. For the price, that's a great deal!
