In the world of martial arts, there is one man above all: Bruce Lee. In 1960s San Francisco, Lee (Phillip Ng) was young, hungry and looking for an opportunity to make a name for himself. That opportunity came when the legendary Shaolin monk, Wong Jack Man (Xia Yu) came into town to observe the state of kung fu in America. Lee challenges Wong to a fight, one that would change the history of martial arts forever.Bonus Content:Birth of the Dragon: Behind the Scenes Review: Great Bruce Lee story in movie form - This movie has enough of a historical feel and kung fu theme to make if very entertaining. Bruce Lee got a beat down from “Master” Wong Jack Man
“Philip Ng” portrayal of the legendary “Bruce Lee” is absolutely stunning! Based a true story in the 1960’s…arrogant and cocky as ever…Bruce Lee gets and “old school” beat down from a more advanced and disciplined Shaolin Monk “Master” “Wong Jack Man visiting the Americas from China, and learns a valuable lesson in humility, honor and the dangers of pride, spawning an evolution and change in martial arts. My personal thoughts: This movie is well written, containing historical facts about true events during the life of Bruce Lee. Movies like this make you want to run outside and practice martial arts on someone…Lol! If you’re into martial arts, you will appreciate this true historical fact in the life of legendary Bruce Lee. This movie is totally amazing with all of its accurate period attire and detail. The movie really takes you back to San Francisco during the early 1960’s, and centers on this one event that actually happened, changing Bruce Lee forever. Great Movie!!! The Facts: 1. Running Time: 1 hr. 35 min. 2. Widescreen HD. 3. Sound 5.1 DTS-HD (Movie is in English). 4. Beautiful Cinematography. 5. No dry or boring areas…lots of action. 6. Excellent character development. 7. “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” style of brutal fight sequences. 8. Lots of carnage from fights. 9. Excellent Ending. Thank you!

but if you like martial arts movies it is still entertaining and worth ...
I gave this movie 4 stars for it's entertainment value, however the story is made up from a 3 minute fight which Bruce Lee won. Of course we all know that Bruce was cocky and arrogant, but he could back it up! The dispute was about Bruce's methods and training the westerners. Bruce told Wong Jack Man to come to Oakland and we will settle this, no sparring, no holds barred, an actual fight! The fight only lasted about 3 minutes with Wong Jack Man running away and Bruce Lee chasing him and getting him down on his back, then Bruce asked him if he gave up and Wong Jack Man said yes! This account comes from someone who was actually there, Bruce's 8 months pregnant wife Linda! This fight still had an effect on Bruce however, it made him rethink his style and then he came up with Jeet Kune Do! So if you want a true account of the fight, this is not the movie for you, but if you like martial arts movies it is still entertaining and worth watching! Be water my friends!

The film is ultimately difficult to resist, though it's clear that those who generally dislike this sort of thing will really hate this.

A must see, well done and much better than "fake news critics" think, if you love Bruce, you'll love this movie
If you are a Bruce Lee fan you will love this movie. Phillip Ng moves and talks and exudes the attitude of Bruce perfectly. The fictional Jack McKee character and Wong Jack Man Shaolin monk characters fit in well, (Wong Jack Man was real but no monk) Bruce is portrayed as an almost superhuman focused explosive animal of a man and it all works, I liked it as much as Dragon and maybe more, Ng is more believable as Bruce than Jason Scott Lee, the story is based on a real fight, its kind of like Law and Order is based on real events. Its a must buy as you'll want to see more than once. The true part of the story is that the real fight with Wong Jack Man did make Bruce rethink his philosophy, think about it, buy it and watch it. A tribute to the greatest fighter ever

Wrong Jack Film
The film portrays Lee as cocky, which he admitted to. The fight choreography is not up to Bruce Lee movie standards, but is not bad. Wong Jack Man has some beautiful techniques. Lee's humorous quips are entertaining. But is it all real? I want to say no. Lee's wife, Linda, watched his big bout with Wong Jack Man. She was not in the film. She claims its ending was as the film states, but not for reasons given by the film. I added a star to this film for the sentiment regarding kung-fu. Having some philosophical discourse in a kung-fu movie is a good thing. But all in all this was fantasy and conjecture. And it is fun to watch, if you're not a Bruce Lee fan. With Tarantino's depreciation of Lee in his last film, there seems to be a trend here. Birth of th Dragon has Lee in almost a secondary role. Whatever the truth is about Bruce Lee, you're not going to find it in a movie, even when he is the star.

INCREDIBLE Fight sequences! I watch Over and Over
I love Bruce Lee even more! I didn't know about the Shaolin, but I understood the film and its intention. The point was to show Bruce Lee's evolution as a person. His attitude needed a spiritual adjustment. Most people didn't receive that. They are hurt that Bruce Lee is portrayed to be such a jerk. Watch it again and open yourself up to learn about his transformation into a better person. The fight sequences are amazing! Perhaps they should have emphasized more of his humility in the end. He became a phenomenal person! Bruce Lee fans were not interested in the reverence of the Shaolin. They are not accustomed to seeing him in a negative light. From what I hear from the Chinese, that's how he was, accept the truth and be glad that he changed.
