Does not work with Samsung Galaxy A series phones
I gave it 5 stars for how well it worked with my laptop, but I bought it for data recovery on a cheap Samsung with a dead screen which doesn't work at all, so I promptly returned it. Turns out nothing works for most Android phones as they aren't meant to be used with HDMI. So if you're looking for an easy data recovery solution for dead screen your only option is to have the screen replaced.

DO NOT BUY!
Absolutely horrible product. No pass through USB charging. No USB audio in (from Scarlett Solo)HDMI out worked for 3 seconds then stopped. Monitor says "no signal".Now this stupid waste of money won't even do anything. Received dented and with lose USB ports. No instructions just in a basic plastic bag with a resealable card board hanger. Cheap and crappy looking. I honestly think the USB moved and it shorted out. The signal was lost after plugging in the HDMI and setting it down. As soon as I sat it down. Boom the whole thing is dead. This is a POS don't waste your money or time. Mine was obviously returned previously and was used. I ended up using a simple USB C to HDMI adapter from Walmart. Like 10 bucks. Works perfectly, with pass through charging. I can't record audio via USB port on my phone though, and that was the whole point of buying this.... Buyer beware!

Kept for a later date
I'll give it a five only because I can use it for something else but what I bought it for it was wouldn't it was not compatible. Reason for.Keeping it because it will come in handy down the road
