Q: How is this different from others that look identical for half the price?

Don't think you'll find anything like this for half the price except a cheap plastic red-dot finder.

Q: What Is the alignment procedure for telescope with this product

When mounted on your telescope, turn the sight on. There are alignment screws that move the reticle pattern inside the sight, left, right, up and down. Pick a object about 1/4 mile away and look thru your eyepiece and focus until object is in clear view. Align the reticle pattern on the sight using the alignment screws, so that when you look into the eyepiece you see the reticle pattern centered on the object. This is easier to accomplish during daylight hours.

Q: What advantages does this finder have over the traditional TelRad? I might assume a somewhat smaller size.

The advantages over Telrad are: more compact size, which gives more flexibility in mounting it, more flexibility in viewing the illuminated reticle, and last but not least, a larger selection of reticle.

Q: How long and wide is the dovetail base?

The base is nearly square. It is 1-3/16 inches long and 1-7/32 inches wide. I made my own mount for my Celestron C8.
