Best headlamp for astronomy and camping ever!
At first, I was frustrated with the light. It has no buttons. Instead, it uses a membrane switch. So you do not press on it. You glide your finger over the membrane to turn it on. Once I sat down, spent 5 minutes with it and actually reading the instructions it turned into the best headlamp I have ever owned. This is also, BY FAR, the best headlamp I have ever owned for astronomy purposes. I go to many star parties with fellow astronomers that have their telescopes set up. The last thing you want to do is blind them with a white light! This headlamp actually allows you to turn the red light on and off directly (without having to cycle through the white light first!) And you can even dim the red light and the white light as well! I use the Red light for astronomy purposes and when I’m all done with the telescopes for the night, I switch over to the white light so that I can pack up my stuff. The white light is exceptionally bright and is very nice for hiking at night. My best advice, sit down with it and play with the functions. You will end up LOVING this headlamp. I am the guy on the left in the picture standing next to my telescopes. I am wearing the headlamp around my neck in the picture. But throughout the night, as I am sharing my views of the universe through my telescope with the public, I use this light (the red light setting) CONSTANTLY to make sure people see where to look through the scope.

awesome
I loved my black diamond headlamp. this one has more lumens. the user interface is pretty unique and I was worried that it wouldn't work while wearing riding gloves. to my great surprise, it does! you have to get the motion down just right, but I have had no problems turning it on and off while riding. this is in a different category than my petzl zipka, but I think it does what it is supposed to do very well. one item of note: i keep this in the side pocket of my riding backpack and there are occasional months (winter) when it doesnt see much use. there must be a residual drain somewhere because the light tends to eat batteries even while off in the backpack. not a big deal of you can constantly use it, but if you are to store it for any length it might be a good idea to just remove the batteries and start with fresh ones before you go.

Innovative headlight -- great red light modes
Excellent in all respects, with the exception of the swipe control. It works most of the time, but you've got to be pretty careful and deliberate. Excellent battery life and resistance to the elements. Good beam pattern, and the stepless dimming control it much appreciated to get the light at just the right intensity. I use the red mode(s) for stargazing and telescope use, and its flexibility is very handy. Maybe with more use I'll get better with the use of the swipe control, but overall this is a pretty good headlight -- as are all of the other Nite Ize products I've purchased.

My favorite headlamp!
The capacitive touch switch is very useful in harsh conditions and has worked with any glove I have used. It can be a bit sensitive and takes some getting used to though. The plastic for the headband is a bit brittle and I have broken a few of the tabs before when changing batteries but after reaching out to the company they replaced the headband/clip free of charge! Just be careful when replacing batteries and it should be fine.

Don't buy it if you need it... only good for the novelty.
Neat idea, but.. the swipe control function doesn't work with gloves on. This means that I have a waterproof headlamp that I can only operate in the best conditions... don't see the point in a weatherproof headlamp that I need to remove hand protection to operate, whether i'm on a job site or out camping. The plastic mount on the headband broke the third day I owned it, I called Nite Ize, they sent me a new one, that one broke in seven days, it was in my coat pocket, I leaned on a tree.. the things are just cheap.Neat idea, but it is a gimmick.

Great idea, major flaws
The elastic strap and the angle of the headlamp are adjustable, I love the brightness of white light. It was an essential tool to fix under sink water filter and other appliances, since it gives you two hands available for work. I even crocheted at night in the car in the passenger seat.I had trouble inserting the lamp into the socket - I was afraid it would brake, it was so tight, but I managed. You had to stretch it hard, so the bolts snap into the indentations in the body of the lamp. However, you don't need to disassemble it to change batteries. The thing that could definitely be improved is the tightness of the buckle on the elastic. It is adjustable, but it loosens up and then it is held in place on my glasses' frame. But what do people with no glasses do? Another thing is that it often takes several swipes to engage & disengage the lamp. I only tried it at home and in a warm car though.Edited: the bracket holding the lamp broke when I stretched the elastic to put it on. I was lucky it happened within two weeks and I could return it as a defective item. Amazon promptly sent me a new one after creating a new order, but I had to mail it back to get a refund. I did not have as much problems assembling the new lamp, but I had to lower the rating from five stars to three. We'll see whether the new one holds for longer.Edit July 2, 2015: It did last longer, but a month ago the bracket broke off while sitting in my drawer! The lamp part still works, but there is no way to attach it to the elastic strap. So I only got 7 months of mild use out of it. I am lowering the score to two stars.I immediately purchased a similar Northbound Train headlamp and it works fine so far. The tilting mechanism is different and I hope it holds better. It also has a press on/off button instead of a swipe, which works every time.

STS is nice when you get the trick to it!
nice headlamp, STS took a few tries to get use to but there's a trick to it and when you get it, it's easy and accurate. For those wondering, the trick is to put a decent length of your finger over the STS when you swipe, don't just put the tip of your finger on the STS and swipe, put it over the STS so your fingertip is over the STS area so that the area after the tip of the finger is touching the STS and swipe away!
