Forney71798 Cut-Off Wheel Kit with 1/4-Inch Shank Mandrel, 3-Inch-by-1/32-Inch, 5-Piece

Two stars only because I found a way to bring the mandrel into acceptable Chinese tolerances and the abrasives are about as expected.Two and a half stars for the abrasive discs, nothing to get excited about.Zero stars for the mandrel as it arrived. The threaded screw is loose as a goose in the mandrel body; the screw shoulder is OK fit to the disc, but the threads and the counterbore for the shoulder are obscenely loose. I chucked it up in my German Metabo die grinder that I know runs true at the collet; the results were less than acceptable even for cheap Chinese stuff. The body of the mandrel didn’t run true with the shank and the disc wobbled. I don’t expect the discs to run totally concentric at the edge, but wobble is unacceptable. The whole mandrel assembly appears to be made on a worn out manual lathe by somebody that has no machinist’s training.I took off the disc and examined the mandrel body further and thought I might have a chance to alleviate most of the problem by getting the body to run true to the shank on the external surfaces and getting the face true, I could get rid of the wobble and most of the out of balance mass. Leaving the mandrel in the die grinder, I took it to my old made in USA bench grinder which runs very true and steady. With the die grinder running in the opposite direction of the bench grinder (left side stone) I held it steady with the tapered part of the mandrel just kissing the high spots on the bench grinder stone until I felt I had it true enough. I then repeated the process on the face of the mandrel until it ran true. (This is very tricky and requires a very light touch to the grinding wheel to avoid it grabbing.) There wasn’t anything I wanted to do about the internal threads or counterbore; I had already given it more effort than it deserved.I put the disc back on and it ran acceptably smooth considering the price and origin. I didn’t measure how much out of concentric it was, it just wasn’t worth the effort and I was only going to give it ten minutes of my time to make it work or toss it. One star for the mandrel after reworking it.

If my dad hadn't already took them to work with him this morning I would add a pic but he did so now I can't. They were exactly what he wanted/needed and he asked for them as a fathwrs day gift. He is very happy with them and we will continue to order them in the future. They also came the next day. Thanks to all of you..

I bought this and am very pleased with the quality. I just needed the mandrel but could not find one in a store near me so I checked Amazon and found this item. It arrived 2 days ahead of schedule, in good condition and the quality and workmanship appear to be very good. It also comes with 3 cutting wheels that appear to be of good quality.

Just a really nice simple solution for quickly trimming everything. I ordered one for home and work.

Website says 1/32" thick but I received blades that are 1/16" and too thick for my application. And you cant return. These guys suck.
