Good Book.
My first audiobook. It was different for me as I like the feel and smell of a real book. I've been reading Stephen King since I was 15. I am 60. I am running out of book shelf space, so I thought I would try an audiobook. It was different for me, being someone who is not an auditory processor, but it worked out really well. It was the narrator who helped me keep my focus. The story is bittersweet, gut wrenching, and heartbreaking, but the main protagonist was a force to be reckoned with. A very strong character who displays vulnerability, but has to rely on her strength when it's most needed.

An efficient little thriller
Mare Winningham does an excellent job narrating this two-CD audio version of Stephen King's long story. It doesn't feel long, though. This one is a well-built thrill ride, and King proves once again that he can reach into his bag of tricks and scare the daylights out of the listener. The story is simple almost to the point of bare-bones, but it has a lot of tension and plenty of surprises in store. Any fan of King who enjoys audiobooks will like this one. It's not profound, but it's great at what it does, gripping the listener in a vice of tension and suspense and not letting go. Saying any more would only risk spoiling this delightful treat for King's fans.

Good voice Acting, Average Story
This novella is read by Mare Winningham who did a great job with King's Lisey's Story. She does the same here, so the reading is professional and top notch. Now the story is another matter. It is a well told story; fleshed out, believable, and the character is developed to the usual high standards by King. But, it's a story that has been told before a thousand times, a woman character abducted by a psychopath. As a result it just wasn't that exciting for a thriller story. It tells of a woman after losing her child in birth, starts to run to escape, and eventually she runs away from her husband and settles on her fathers beach vacation home. While prodding her future with her husband she jogs every day on the beach, until one day she jogs past a house with a body in the back of a trunk. She gets abducted by the psychopath and tied up. And she must escape as usual. The running theme is used throughout this story, as it applies to this woman and she uses it in her situation with her abductor. This wasn't a bad story, but I've read too many of these similar in style stories to garner any excitement over this tale.

Stephen King keeps delivering
This audio book was read by Mare Winningham, and she does a fine job. The story is the main draw, and you want this one. It is not really a horror story; it is a tale of terror, with more of a 'how badly do you want to survive?' theme. Lots of action, lots of clues as to what may happen next, with lots (and lots) of tension.

Great book!
I really enjoy Stephen King's books! I don't have as much time to read as I used to have, so I have started listening to them on CD. This was a great book and I would sit in my car just to finish the chapter! This is a great story and keeps your attention!!

This is the first Stephen King book I did not like!
I was so sorely disappointed in this book. The first Stephen King book I did not like. First, the title of the book had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOK, unless I'm missing something. It was very short, and nothing like anything I have ever read by King. I feel cheated. I will continue to read Stephen King, of course, and just assume he was having a bad day when he wrote it. As short and bland as it was I assume it only took him a day to write it. Sorry Stephen.

The gingerbread girl
I was a little disappointed that is was so short, but it was entertaining like most of King's books, but for a quick read it was good.

definitely has nothing to do with the title
it's not a bad story but has nothing to do with a gingerbread anything

The Gingerbread Girl
Far too many "as Ifs", lots of reasons to say this book does not need to be written, e.g.; why stay? when earlier running is the thing to do.
