Great soundbar, but at a cost
This is my 4th soundbar, though this is my first from Samsung. I've slowly worked up the price ladder... from a $40 one (first) to a $300+ (previous). This one definitely jumped in the price category. OK, now that you have some context of this review. Sound - at first, I have to be honest and say I was not blown away. This was probably due to two factors. One, the audio source of the video was not that good. It was highly compressed and recorded at 2.1 channels. But I then found a 5.1 source... that made a difference. Second, I had to tune the sound using the app. Once I tweaked the audio "height", then OMG. This sound bar does an amazing job immersing you. The rear speakers are so much better than my last system that it made both me and my son jump when an arrow came from behind us to hit a target in a scene. I think this does a great job of the viewer not to obsess or analyze the sound... it just presents it, envelopes you, but otherwise gets out of the way. The whole unit has crazy amounts of power. We use HDMI e-arc to control the volume from the TV. We used to listen at 44 (out of 60) but now we have to listen at 15. Actually, I've set the soundbar in night mode so we can have a little more wiggle room in volume (now at 22). Looks - it looks awesome. You need a big TV though, as it is wide! It will dwarf a 55 inch TV. The subwoofer is also large and powerful. Price - OK, here is the biggest question... is it worth the price? I don't know. This is a $1.8k soundbar system. Is it 4.5x better than the $350 system? I would say no. But here it is… if you want the best system under $2k, this is it. Can you spend more on soundbar systems? Yes, there is one brand out there for $3.5k. You will be pleased if you purchased this system. For casual movie watchers (i.e. not movie quality snobs) can 90% of the performance for a lot less.
