From director Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon) comes a thrill ride of explosive action from beginning to end. One hundred million dollars' worth of confiscated drugs has just been jacked from police custody. Once the career bust of Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), the missing drugs now threaten to shut down the Narcotics Division of the Miami Police Department. When the drug investigation turns deadly, the murderers kidnap the only witness: a beautiful police informant (Téa Leoni) and close friend of the boys.

Watch this for Will Smith and Martin Lawrence arguing with each other
Bad Boys was a buddy cop film featuring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence who go up against Tcheky Karyo. It was directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer which meant it had big production action sequences such as the opening heist where Karyo’s gang steals drugs from a police station by going through the ventilation system, tapping into the surveillance system, giving a guard a hypodermic needle, and more. It’s as if the crooks were from the Mission Impossible Force. It’s totally over the top but that was their style. There’s lots of that throughout the movie especially when guns start coming out. Of course that’s not the draw of Bad Boys. That’s the interaction between Smith and Lawrence who are always bickering about one thing or another usual to comedic effect. It’s those two that make this movie worthwhile.

ACTION!, ACTION!, ACTION! THIS IS AN ACTION MOVIE, NOT A COMEDY..
The chemistry between MARTIN LAWRENCE and WILL SMITH is the strength of this movie. Tea Leoni plays really well (and she looks GOOD) with these guys, too, in this buddy/cop/international drug dealer tale. I thought this was a comedy, but I was wrong. There is humor, yes. BUT, THIS A MAJOR BANG, BANG, SHOOT 'EM UP, BLAST 'EM OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH, MASSIVE EXPLOSIONS, CAR CHASE MOVIE. Will Smith exposes his finely toned chest liberally. He looks great.I REALLY ENJOYED the special features commentary by Micheal Bay, the director. It was his first real movie. Bay went on to do the Transformer movies and Armaggedon, so you get the action connection. There's violence and plenty of STRONG LANGUAGE. PROBABLY NOT FOR KIDS. Because BIG ACTION movies are not my favorite genre, I give this movie 3 1/2. But, because I can't give it a 3 1/2, I give it a 4. If you like action movies, you might even give it a 5.

Golden!
The acting, the directing, the story, the chemistry, the humor all worked perfectly together to produce a terrific film! I love Will Smith and Martin Lawrence individually, but together they are freakin' awesome! The supporting cast was also spot on! Excellent show!

Riddled with cliches but still entertaining.
The plot in this movie is absolutely nothing spectacular and is VERY basic. There are also plot holes all over the place. The constant arguing between Smith and Laurence also gets on my nerves and spoils the slight chemistry that they have. But Michael Bay's direction puts a glossy shine on an otherwise cruddy movie. But he made the movie in 1.85:1. Why?The plot, for what it's worth, concerns a drug dealer (Tchecky Kayro in a virtually nameless role) who slays an idiot member of his gang. Beautiful Julie Mott (Tea Leoni) witnesses the slaying and is marked for death . She calls the cops but for a dumb reason will only talk to Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) is the only person there who can take the call and assumes the role of Mike in order to take Julie into `in-home' protective custody. Why he doesn't just reveal to her right away that he told a little white lie only to get her out of harms way...I dunno. Perhaps it is because it's the only plot element that the legion of writers could abuse to inject the slightest amount of comedy and drag out an 85-minute to 2 hours. It irritates beyond comprehension and the film should really have been dumped in the direct to video bucket instead of having a cinema release. But as long as the film masquerades as a proper Hollywood movie everything will be okay. And it's to Michael Bay's credit that he's managed to pull this off. Without him the movie would be long-forgotten.A Hollywood movie it certainly is. It took 10 years for Bad Boys to be made and many changes to the script took place in that time. It was originally set in New York and was to star John Lovitz and Dana Carvey as the leads. It was shopped around Hollywood, chewed-up and spat out by many studios, until Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckhiemer picked it up and thought that turning it into a shiny and bright action adventure could redeem it. The budget wasn't too high and Bay did as much as he could considering the tiny amount of money he had (even spending part of his own salary) and did an impressive job too. The action scenes certainly make up for the lulls in the plot. Too bad there is not enough of them. The van chase, shootout in the lobby and final battle are way cool and Mark Mancina's score is incredible. Too bad the score isn't available on CD but there is 5.1 isolated score on the DVD.Everyone should see Bad Boys at least once as there will be something for everyone but do not expect a great or original plot. There isn't one, but the sequel is in production right now and Michael Bay is directing again. There are a truckload of features on this DVD. The widescreen picture is looking good and the 5.1 soundtrack and isolated score are way cool.

Disappointed
I love this movie and usually don't review negatively. I have already emailed amazon in regards to the play back on this video and how horrible it was but have heard nothing back yet. I didn't even get to watch it as it glitched out and froze over ten times in the first 15 minutes.

Great action movie but.....TERRIBLE BLURAY conversion
I've loved this movie since it came out in 1995. I have the original DVD and the special edition version. Sorry to say that the special edition regular DVD has better quality then the BluRay. I don't get why the movie companies aren't restoring/enhancing the movies before they transfer them to the blueray disc. These things cost almost 20.00 and I want my monies worth. I spent lots of money getting a nice HD TV, bluray player, surround sound system but if the movie isn't transferred right they all my hd equipment is useless. I've seen this movie on one of my DirecTv HD channels and the picture was way better then this BluRay disc.Pros:GREAT movieCons:Not digitally enhanced or restored. Normal DVD looks better!

The movie that put Bay on the map...to notoriety
Say what you want about Michael Bay, all criticisms are valid, but I do think that he is a skilled and talented director with a vision, it just so happens to be a poor vision that hasn't changed in 25 years. Bad Boys was his debut feature after honing his skills on music videos, and all this time later he has not matured as a filmmaker, which is kinda sad. He still makes mindless popcorn trash with the stolen aesthetic of Ridley Scott and Tony Scott.Bad Boys took ten years to get to the screen, starting out as an 80s buddy comedy called Bulletproof Hearts that was to star Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey. It was rewritten, chewn-up and thrown out by the studios before it ended up with Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, who, at the time, did not have a hit since Days of Thunder (which was mauled by critics). They rebranded the script Bad Boys and a phenomenon was born.Does the movie deserve it's popularity? Not really. The plot, for what it's worth, concerns screaming foreign crime boss Fuchet (Tchecky Kayro in an intimidating and effective performance) who slays an idiot member of his drug-dealing gang. Beautiful Julie Mott (Tea Leoni) witnesses the slaying and is marked for death . She calls the cops but for painfully contrived reasons will only talk to Mike Lowrey (the uber-obnoxious Will Smith). Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) is the only person there who can take the call and assumes the role of Mike in order to take Julie into `in-home' protective custody. Why he doesn't just reveal to her right away that he told a little white lie only to get her out of harms way...I dunno. Perhaps it is because it's the only plot element that the legion of writers could abuse to inject the slightest amount of comedy and drag out an 85-minute premise to 2 hours. There are so many lulls in the action that the movie frequently threatens to keel over and die. Bay has a habit of making his movies overly long but even with his debut he couldn't recognise the dead weight that drags everything down. The action scenes, when they do happen, are thrilling, and it's to Michael Bay's credit that he's managed to pull this off. Without him the movie would be long forgotten though he could have reigned in on Will Smith's complete inability to ad-lib and cut out the irritating screaming matches between the various cast members. No one has clever dialogue here, it's all anger and rage, and it's horrible.Strangely, Martin Lawrence comes off the better actor of the two and is almost endearing.Mark Mancina's fun score keeps the slow pace just about bearable and keeps the transitions between scenes ticking over nicely. The 90s soundtrack is a little dated and the entire plot is an 80s relic to the point where it's hard to ignore how unoriginal it is and appreciate it for its true merits, few as they might be.Bay Boys was shot in standard 1.85:1 widescreen by Howard Atherton, famous for his work on Fatal Attraction and Black Rain (where he was usurped, somewhat unfairly, by Jan De Bont) and it looks gorgeous in 4K HDR. The compositions, set designs, and filtering techniques all have a Ridley Scott flavor to them which sets it apart from its wretched sequel. For all it's flaws, Bad Boys sure does have amazing cinematography which I believe helped give Michael Bay the edge he was looking for among the crop of hopeful action directors who were emerging at the time. Being a movie from 1995, it was shot and edited on 35mm so this 4K is the real deal. The Dolby Atmos sound is pretty good, but fails to beef up the shortcomings of the original sound mix.

Not exactly haute cinema, but a good laugh, that's for sure. Looks a bit dated now; a bit like a not so good version of Lethal Weapon.
