Great classic western
Classic Clint Eastwood. Dry one liners, great story and plenty of action.

Good film with interesting history
I enjoyed this film. Directed by Eastwood's mentor Don Siegel, it's not perfect but you can see it as a prototype for the style Eastwood would perfect over the following fifty years. Mexico looks good, it's nicely shot, the wildlife gets a starring role and the suspenseful narrative turns some interesting corners. The film reminded me of a period of history I had forgotten. This was France's intervention in Mexico (backed up by the UK and others). The empire-hungry Europeans were taking advantage of the US's preoccupation with its civil war. Mexico eventually ejected them after a protracted campaign. Shirley McClaine's entrance seemed incongruous at first but she certainly grew on me. Clint put in his usual solid performance and other key members of the cast (such as the rebel Mexican leader and the French colonel of the fort) are equally convincing. The film conveys plenty of period detail and has a rousing finish. Highly recommended.

Great Sunday afternoon Film
Enjoyed this with hubby when searching for something classic to watch...good film, good story and great actors. May be 50 years old but still passed an enjoyable few hours on a Sunday afternoon for a couple a little over than 50 years! lol

'GREAT CHEMISTRY BETWEEN 'CLINT' AND 'SHIRLEY'
'Clint Eastwood' plays 'Hogan'he sells his talents with gun and dynamite to the highest bidder,on rout to his next job he comes across three rough-necks who arethreatening and taunting 'Sara''Hogan' comes to the rescue, however he gets a surprise, when 'Sara'gets her cloths back on, she's dressed as a nun.the two travel together.'Hogan' is heading for a French Garrison to help Mexican rebels, hisprice --half of the bounty held at the Garrison.'Sara' cannot keep up the pretence of being a nun for too long ??romance so obviously on the menu.although filmed in Mexico the film is very much in the style of thespaghetti westerns.plenty of 'Eastwood' humour on board as always along with explosiveaction.roles such as this is what helped build the screen legend that is'Clint Eastwood'well worth revisiting, if you've not seen it before you'll not bedisappointed.( not Blu-ray standard in truth, however the picture quality is betterthan on 'dvd' )
