The Art of Amphibia

I haven’t watched the complete show—just the first episode—so I can’t really call myself a fan. However, when I saw this artbook announced, I became genuinely curious about what stands behind this animated TV series. In short, the art style immediately reminded me of some of the most iconic shows of the past two decades—Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time to some extent, and others. ★★★★★ Art The book is packed with all kinds of artwork—from early sketches and alternative character designs to storyboards, finalized production art, and richly detailed background paintings. You’ll also find designs for monsters, props, and even bits of animation. What’s great is how well-organized it is: the artwork is arranged in chronological order by episode, making it easy to navigate and find exactly what you’re looking for. ★★★★☆ Text The accompanying text is engaging and never feels excessive. After a brief introduction, the book is divided into three main chapters, each dedicated to one of the show’s three seasons. Each section begins with a few pages outlining the season’s main features, followed by a short quote for each episode from various creators highlighting interesting moments or insights. Additionally, the key characters each have dedicated pages discussing their creation process, design challenges, and the reasoning behind their distinctive looks. ★★★★★ Book Design The design follows the familiar “making-of” artbook format—landscape orientation, glossy paper, and vibrant images. The layouts are clear and thoughtfully composed, and the typography fits the show’s playful spirit perfectly. I appreciated the stylized chapter headers and fonts inspired by the series itself. No dust jacket (which is a HUGE plus, in my opinion), and the addition of a green ribbon bookmark is just the cherry on top—it makes browsing through the book even more enjoyable. ★★★★★ Price For a 224-page book, the price is more than fair. As of November 2025, there are still plenty of discounted offers available, even several months after release. That said, prices have started to rise slightly in recent months, which makes me think this book might become a collector’s item in a few years—and honestly, it has everything it takes to become one. ★★★★★ Overall Impressions Right from the introduction—where the actress voicing the main character shared that she fell in love with Anne the moment she saw her first image (a leaf in her hair and one missing shoe)—I realized this artbook would focus on the small, heartfelt details that make Amphibia’s world so magnetic and alive. And after finishing it, I can confidently say I was right. Everyone who worked on Amphibia clearly poured their heart and soul into each character, background, and tiny detail that makes this series so beloved. You can feel that love and care on every page. Honestly, what more could you ask for from an artbook?

Beautiful book, bought it for my 10 year old who loves the show. Kept her engaged and reading and she loved learning all the fun facts about the animation and characters.
