These knives are stout, very well crafted. These hand forged knife set is a must have for any cheif in your life. I cook in more than eat out so they been used quite heavily and they’re holding up better than expected. They come super sharp and well balanced in your had. It’s a larger handle so smaller hands might feel uncomfortable but not a deal breaker.

The media could not be loaded.  Out of the box these knives look great. They are super sharp. In the video, I am cutting this steak with no problem. I can tell the steel is made of high quality and should last a long time. The only issue I have is that one of the handles was chipped, and two of them had gaps where the blade meets the handle. That being said, I am sure these will last me a long time. Not the best quality control for sure though!

I opened the surprisingly heavy box to find three knives wrapped with plastic film and protected with edge guards. Removing the plastic film revealed the knives are coated with a thick coating of a petroleum jelly-like substance. This substance also REEKS, like bad. Think burnt tires in an electrical fire.I washed one of the knives vigorously with Dawn detergent and hot water. Multiple times. With a scrubby sponge. After 3 washings, the knife still retained a faint, foul odor and transferred it to an apple I cut.2 more washings later and I feel that I got it clean enough that I can actually use for food prep. THere's still a faint smell, however.The true measure of a knife's quality is not the smell, however, but sharpness, balance, and edge retention.- Sharpness: These passed the paper test out of the box; I don't think they need to be sharpened additionally unless you're gonzo about getting a razor edge. They should sharpen fairly well given they are carbon steel.- Balance: They're slightly blade-heavy but not off balance. The weight may make this slightly harder to maneuver for someone not accustomed to weighty blades. I'd exercise caution here.- Edge retention. Naturally I haven't had the opportunity to use these until they require sharpening, but if it indeed German-made 5CR15MOV steel, they should perform well.

They have weight them, so if you are not confident in your kitchen skills, these may not be the best ones for you to begin with. The weight of the meat cleaver helps chop through cuts of meat that have joints that can be difficult to get through with regular meat cleavers. I was able to cut up a roasting chicken much easier with this cleaver than my standard one. The butcher knife is nearly every kitchen's staple knife to have. The blade is going to take a bit to get used to since I am more familiar with a smaller butcher knife. I have not used this knife yet but plan to do so soon. The chef knife is what my heart is pitter-pattering over. Veggie prep has never been this easy or fun in recent memory.Now, I will say that I love how the set is boxed. It will make a beautiful gift for someone who is at home in the kitchen. The smell was a little off-putting but I believe that was due to the oil they were coated in. The instructions mention to keep them lightly oiled to prevent rust. I love this set so much that I am willing to buy any additions this company offers.

I have never had a set of knives to cut meats like this, but it was time for me to step up my game. And not only are these knives big and sharp, they are really nice looking as you can see in the photos in the product description (note they look just like the ones sent to me so I didnt include photos for that reason). The one aspect I didnt appreciate with these knives is that they need special care to prevent rust, and also to maintain sharpness. Im hopeful I can adhere to the care instructions because apparently these knives can rust if dont oil them after each use? We shall see how that plays out over time, but apparently that will be on me and how compliant I am with the care.
