Beautiful Bowls
Really a beautiful color and worked well for individual shepherd's pie. Yes, they can be used for dishes other than onion soup.

Great product!
These soup bowls are very well made and the perfect size!! I ordered the blue and am very happy with them. They are packaged very well and I’ll be storing them in their original boxes which are padded with styrofoam! I like the bowls with no lip as for French onion soup, the cheese sticks to the lip!

Nicely Sized -- Handle is Awkward to Hold -- But See UPDATE Below
If you think these will be beautiful in your kitchen, then you're right -- the pictures represent the red ombre bowls exactly. They are a good size and weight for soup. The rounded handles are a little short and slick for me, although the length means they all fit into a small space when broiling. The leverage feels wrong -- there's no bracing point for my thumb, so I make sure to have a potholder in my opposite hand in case my fingers slip on that smooth round handle. I don't know yet if that feeling will improve as I get used to the bowls. The bowls are unlikely to get broken in shipping as they are well packaged, but I advise you to take them outside to the lawn for unpacking. The bowls fit tightly into a Styrofoam nest which breaks and shatters into a million little gnat-sized pieces as you try to pull the bowls out. You WILL drop one or more bowls, and the particles cling to everything except the inside of your trash can. (I didn't think about checking to see if they dissolve in water.) There's a recipe card for onion soup in the box to make you feel better about the whole thing on a cold day. UPDATE: I've found a way to grip the handle which is less intuitive than "thumb on top" but more secure. Form a loose fist with the knuckle of the thumb resting easily against the side of the first finger (think of holding a stick for a dog to tug). The back of your hand is up. Slide the end of the bowl's handle into the hole in your fist. The end of the handle pushes up against the inside of your hand from the weight of the contents in the bowl; the first three fingers wrap around the handle; the side of the thumb braces lightly against the opposite side of the handle and the fleshy part of the thumb continues to rest against the side of your first finger without curling under to try to grip around the handle. Using this grip, I can lift the bowl in and out of the oven or turn the bowl sideways to empty it without needing a brace from my other hand. The leverage feels secure. The handle really does stay cool while the contents get hot, just remember not to push your fingers all the way against the side of the hot bowl when setting your grip.

Handled broiler and cleaned easily
I don’t know why I waited so long to buy them after my previous French onion soup bowls went crashing to the floor. These bowls are as sturdy as they are beautiful. They handled the broiler without any problems, and they cleaned off easily in the dishwasher. The only thing I am disappointed with is that they don’t stacks. They can sit on top of each other a bit wobbly, so I wouldn’t recommend stacking them higher than two bowls. If space is of the premium in your kitchen, you may want to consider a different set.
