Alternative Use
I use this item to tie my horse, which allows him freedom to pull away safely if he gets spooked. The price was much lower than the equestrian equivilent.

The Great 8 Descender
This classic figure of eight descender otherwise known as a peak rescue terminal 8 is made from forged light alloy, it's main purpose is to enable a quick and easy installation using the friction between the rope and fall speed or brake for descents, it can also help you climb more safely. I have never seen one for under £6 this is very good value if it is good quality.Although it has no markings other than 35KN for heavy load capacity it looks similar in comparison to others that are clearly labelled up with standards of certification hence the big price difference, one would assume it has been vigerously tested but I am just going to have to put it to the test in a safe environment to be sure it is up to the task!

Excellent Figure 8 Rappel Descender
This is a standard design figure-of-8 rappel descender made of aluminium. The metal is smooth exactly as it should be.There are no irregularities or sharp edges which could damage the rope.It has 35kN laser etched on the side, indicating its deforming / failure level.(That would be approx 3.5 metric tonnes or 3500kg).There is no CE mark, but (as I understand it) none is required. The price is excellent. I would be happy to use it climbing.Weight = 130g. Length = 14.2cm.

Solid, apears well made, not a certified item
Just so you know, I review products for Amazon, so I did not pay for this item. Having received it, here's what I thought:I’ve done a bit of climbing over the years, I’ve got a Swift Water Rescue certification too, so I have spent some time using ropes in training and in practice. This is a solid device, simple in design, you can use it to do many climbing activities from a make-shift belay to an abseil device. Do get some training though. I found some very good stuff on YouTube to learn more about the ways to add friction.I’ll be continuing to use this device for lowering boats into the water when circumstances require it. I personally would not put a person’s life on this device as it doesn't have the CE certification EN15151-2:2012There are no instructions in the pack either, so no reference to remind you of your training. So it’s 3 stars on those grounds

Good quality terminal 8. Good for abseiling
This is an aluminium terminal 8 rated to 35kn. And it's bright orange. I always love a bright colour for these thinhs so they're easy to spot on your bundle.I used it while doing some tree trimming rope work. It's easy to use and works smoothly. There's no rough edges or areas that snag. It's easy to clip onto and after a days use the finish has held up with no chips or scrapes to the finish.Good quality and value. Recommended. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it useful

No safety markings or paperwork
This would not be allowed in any event, or at any climbing centre. No safety markings, kite mark, CE, iso, no paperwork, nothing to say this has been tested or is suitable for the application. Use at your own risk.

Competent performer- nice colour also!
Dimensionally as described and having a very bright and uniformly applied anodised surface which is good looking as well as functional. The fig-8 surface condition is smooth and well finished over all faces, with no cast marks, voids or pits seen.Tried with some standard rope- no problems formed well and allowed rope to run smoothly over surface with no excessive friction and the anodised coating didn't appear to have any wear- obviously early days, but so far- does the job.
