Hello, you can custom order a set of 33102 extended poles for the batwing, they cost about $150 and make the awning work up to 13ft high

Do you have to open it all the way, or can you opt to open just the side portion?

Officially it has to be opened all the way... However, With a bit of fancy rope-work you could theoretically partially deploy. I would strongly recommend the Rhino-Rack Sunseeker for single side deployment.
