I am happy with this purchase
Overall, I am happy with this purchase. One of our cats is quite large, and I was worried about getting the small. She is able to fit through the small door, though, so I'm glad we didn't go larger. I didn't want to get a larger size, because we use ours in a window, and the larger the cat door, the more we have to open the window to fit the plywood piece it mounts into. We mounted ours into a piece of 3/4" plywood, and used weather strip as a shim on either side of the opening. Home Depot cut the plywood, and the door came with directions on how to cut out the rectangle to attach the door into place. You will need a drill and a jig saw if you use plywood, as we did. My only complaint is that the flap sometimes stays a bit ajar, and that might be a problem in the winter. It does have a door that slides over the opening, so we are able to close it off if needed.

Easy to install
Works good

It was fairly easy to install
We bought this for our cats so that they could get from the garage into the house. It was fairly easy to install, even in the metal-lined door to the garage. The cats have been using it for about a year. They have no trouble getting in and out, but they don't just jump through like I thought they would. They carefully use their paws to push it open and then step through. I'm not sure if this is because they are timid, polite cats (doubtful) or if it hurts their head to just push through. My guess is it's a little too hard to just headbutt their way through. It also makes a fair amount of noise when they go through it (I think because of the magnet), so if it's near where you sleep it might be annoying to have them clunking through it all night. It fits tightly enough, though, and doesn't seem to be a problem with letting air conditioning leak out or anything.

Great little kitty door!
We have had the kitty door in place for about a month now, and Kitty just loves it! We did not install it in the door. My husband is a professional woodworker, but I think anyone with some basic skills could install it in the wall like we did. Our Kitty needed to get from the utility room into the garage for her litter box. My husband made a wooden jamb (box) that fit the 4 3/4" of the wall thickness + sheetrock and then attached the little door frames on either side and screwed into the edges of the box. We painted the inside edges of the little box white before installation for a better finished look. With the jamb made ahead of time, the installation was about 10 mins. total. It took Kitty a few tries to really get comfortable with the whole idea. She is about 2 yrs old. After the 1st day she was totally loving having her own 'entrance'. The flap is clear, soft and flexible which after reading others' reviews I thought was an important part of getting Kitty to be comfortable with the idea. I think overall it is well made, a great size for the 'average' kitty. I have a Toy Poodle as well, and I think if I were expecting him to use it I would size up one size. My poodle is about 10 lbs and could get through the door, but I think a small Yorkie would use it better dog-size-wise.All in all a great purchase. 2 paws up from Kitty!!

Fits on paneled/beveled doors!
I installed this on an interior door to the laundry room with great success. This is for my cats, so I purchased the small size. I keep the "kitty bathroom" in the laundry room and wanted to keep the door shut so company wouldn't have to see the litter box and I wouldn't have to listen to the appliances. The installation really did take only 20 minutes and as one other reviewer mentioned, the cutout size is very forgiving. I'm a small woman yielding a heavy (for me) jig saw which was hard to keep on the line. So some areas were a tad wider while others were slimmer. I was able to fit the door nicely and no one can see my mistakes! For me, having the shutout flap be separate is a plus as I don't intend to use it since this is an interior door. I remember reading a reviewer's comments that they wish it were attached. I can certainly see the need/wish for exterior doors, but for folks like me, it's nice that it's separate.Like others, I'm using masking tape to hold the flap up to help the cats to get accustomed to the door itself. It's only been one day and they're already using it nicely (what a relief!).One piece of advice I received that I thought to share is regarding the use of the pet door on beveled doors, which is that one can easily caulk the edges if the frame of the door presents an unsightly appearance.

Fine for an inside door..
This would be ok IF you are putting it into an inside door. I have not purchased any other pet doors so cannot compare quality ONLY installation.I am quite experienced ,do a lot of custom items, have a significant shop and tools. I was installing on a difficult spot. Next to a custom sunken Japanese wood tub, through a tile wall to outside cypress siding. It's Friday, hot, muggy, two kittens are watching as I carefully remove the 2x2 black tiles, cut the concrete backer board, go outside on the deck, cut the cypress. All looks good so far . Test fit door good. Now I open the extension that is supposed to be thru the wall. Great package, but it ends there, it does not snap on to the door, no, it is about 3/4" taller than the door?? why? Save your money... do not buy "the extension!!" I ended up building a wooden box to fit in the wall, tricky , as the screw holes for the screws to tie the outside flange to the door are in the way .the screws were 1/4, the holes were too small,,yes, you could drill them out BUT the receiving holes in the outside flange were for possibly 8-32 so the 1/4 would not possibly fit! Ended up drilling both the door and flange for stainless screws into the custom wood wall liner. Door looks good. Kittens happy, Extension unit where it belongs, ,IN TRASH

Glad I ordered this door.
Was a little tricky installing in previous cat-door opening. After all is said & done it looks good & kitty (12 lbs.) has no problem using it.

Doggy door
We were very pleased except one small issue --the cover plate will not slide in so we have to wedge only one side in.
