From a distance you might actually mistake these candles for the real thing, stick them in a lantern, in a bowl with glass stones or just grouped on a table. The candles come with a remote that allows you to control the flicker, the brightness and the amount of time they remain on.Each candle tales two batteries and I suspect given it's an LED which are generally fairly low voltage that the batteries will probably last a while. You can use re-chargable batteries (I know it would be nice if that was built in) but ultimately for such a low cost it's nice to see something that has a little remote with it to allow you to control whatever you want. The colour and the look certainly do look like real candles but you don't have the issue of wick maintenance, the spilling of wax, heat generation and smoke (when using indoors) so all very positive.I'll likely use them for a number of occasions, in the garden, at christmas time as part of decorations, at halloween and likely others. It's nice that they are waterproof as if I have them in the garden and there is a shower then I don't need to immediately worry about them (I suspect the remote isn't waterproof).All in all I'm pleased with them and I think they offer good value.

The big problem I have with battery candles is turning them off at the end of the night. these candles also use "real" batteries (not USB rechargeable) so it's annoying when you drunkly go to bed and forget to electronically blow them out.This is where the genius of the remote control comes in. Not only can you turn all your candles off with a click of the remote, but if you plan it right you can also setup how long you want the candles on for, and they will automatically turn off for you - brilliant!I'm using these candles in a lantern, and you can't tell the difference. If they were on the table in front of you then you might well notice they were not real, but from afar they certainly look the real deal.For £13.99 for 3 candles (plus the remote!) these are a great buy.
