This report is outdated & obsolete given the research on learning in the 45 years since written.
All 5 star reviews, really?Okay, it’s only $10 bucks, but save your money and take the free online course, Learning How to Learn from Coursera.org by Dr. Barbara Oakley. If you happen to be more technically inclined, check out a journal paper, The Future of Engineering Education II. Teaching Methods That Work by chemical engineering professor , Dr. Richard M Felder. This “book” by it’s own admission is a report; outdated and somewhat obvious given all the research on learning over the last 45 years since this report was written. It’s currently being published by the children of the author who wrote it in 1975. I almost quit reading when I saw the comparison of Dr. B.F. Skinner, a seminal author of psychology to science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, a well known scam. This report promotes programmed learning, an outdated technology proven to be almost useless when applied in the classroom. See Jason McDonald’s thesis, The Rise and Fall of Programmed Instruction. When’s the last time you saw, or even heard of, a programmed textbook?

Just what i needed.
I really enjoy the book. It has given me the confidence to tackle my course studies head on. The 8 FLM techniques can be use by any age student. I really enjoyed the example and the over tone of the book. I have not cons so far.

Love this book!
I gave this book five stars and it was well earned by the author. It was very informative and most importantly entertaining. Learning can be fun, and the new tips and tricks I've learned by reading this book has motivated me and made going back to school a little less scary. I recommend this book to EVERYONE. From kids to teens to young adults to adults to elders. Everyone can learn something. I have no complaints

Good advice with some little distraction
This report, although it is relatively short, contains a great amount of solid, practical advice, particularly for studying in an institutionalised educational setting. The methods discussed will take time and effort to learn, so, they are not automatically easy or "fast", although they will eventually "speed up" or optimise your learning. The advice on speed reading is excellent and surpasses information, which many other authors have unnecessarily stretched out into entire books. The dictionary method stands out as the most fussy, complicated and perhaps least productive, although the intention certainly is honourable and makes somewhat sense, in terms of refinement of ones knowledge and awareness, as well as self-discipline. We should not forget, this text was obviously developed long before the arrival of the Internet.Somewhat surprisingly, although clearly written in the 1970s the area of "lateral thinking" is strangely omitted (so, the content of the report largely concentrates on how to extract and memorise facts from a clearly defined given syllabus). At the same time it quotes the findings and thinking of L. Ron Hubbard (yes, Scientology) more than once as sources for inspiration. Even though this could feel dated and immediately alarm some readers, there is no apparent further promotion of the doctrine of this "movement". I actually suspect a degree of honest and somewhat innocent naivity of the author, who may have been an active member or fellow of it, or perhaps even not - he apparently died in 1993, and we know a lot more since about Scientology, don't we. So, I do not get the impression that this piece of work is openly deliberate promotional material, or possibly promotion in disguise (assuming that it is genuine and authentic). So, that little potentially "ideological blip" aside, the ideas are sound, useful and neutral, and I do believe indeed, that many people, pupils and students may well benefit from them.I certainly do not personally regret the purchase and would overall recommend it the principles of advice in this report.Thank you.

Amazed
For someone who has settle with grade c, for most of his learning life, but always strives to do better, but never seems to achieve his goal, due to to much information over load,I have found this book to be the first in along while I have read from start to finish, and thoroughly enjoyed and am definitely going to try this system on my up coming diving exam this year.

Great read!!!
I had heard of some of the techniques mentioned in the paper before but never thought they were so strong. Loved learning the new techniques I picked up. I am certainly going to start practising them. The biggest eye opener was the Technique that states moving on without understanding certain words was extremely powerful. I am pretty sure I am not moving forward with my learning/ readings without fully understanding the new words. Loved the paper.

Helpful learning points
A number of study techniques some of which I was already and some of which I learnt from this book. Good and useful techniques and a nice short read. Some of the info dated like the individualised instruction courses but other wise good solid info

Three Stars
OK. Nothing new under the sun but reminds us of techniques we have probably forgotten.
