My Favorite Cook Book
I have always loved cookbooks and own several--some that I purchased just because of the photography. Some just because they were on sale and many because of the cooking trend at the time. I have to say that I haven't used many of them or often, but that is not the case with Almost Vegetarian. This is my favorite cook book. (In fact, I have two of them because I lost my first copy while moving). It's my "go to" book when I am in the mood for something different. I have cooked more than half of the recipes in this book and so far, I think I did pretty good. While I am not a vegetarian, I appreciate the notes that the author gives on preparing some of the recipes using seafood or poultry. I was also pretty new to cooking when I first purchased this book, but the author's notes were very helpful about what to look for in certain vegetables, fruits and some of the uncommon foods that one may not use often. While some of the ingredients were unfamiliar to me--Arborio rice, saffron, Japanese eggplant, for example--the author did a great job in explaining what the items were, how to choose them at the store and how to prepare them for the dish.Another thing that I like about this book is that it does not have pictures. This was good for me because I would often be disappointed in myself if my dish did not look like the picture. I only had my sense of taste to let me know how well I executed the dish. This is a great book for someone who loves to try different foods, learn a little more about cooking and wants to trust their palate.

Almost Vegetarian
What I like about this book is the information on how to purchase veggies. I don't buy new kinds of veggies because I'm a bit intimidated by it and I worry that I'm spending money on something that isn't fresh enough. It describes a fresh or a nonfresh veggie to help me at the produce section. I also like the explanation on how to use and prepare beans. I've only used canned beans and would like to use fresh ones and this has helped me start that.

Great starter book
Great book to start eating more plant based meals. Great information on choosing, storing and cooking fruits and vegetables.

Perfect information
I really loved this because the beginning introduction was about shopping for produce and how to do it right. The introduction also included the important of each fruit and vegetable.

Not Just Recipes
I love this primer. It is more than just a book of recipes. It has directories of vegetables and fruits along with their peak season, storage method and life, as well as suggestions on how to showcase and cook them. There is also information on types of beans, rice, vingegars and oils. I've never liked to cook nor properly learned how. This book will make a handy reference. Oh yes, and the recipes are great!

almost vegetarian
Chocked full of interesting recipes. Although I thought this was the book where I had found a recipe for Couscous cake and tofu yong (egg foo yong, minus the egg), I was disappointed that the recipes weren't found here.
