These are the best tool for opening the buffer tubes of fiber optic cables. They hold up well and at the price aren't a huge deal when you loose one. I recommend them to all of our technicians.

Love `em.Have worn through many a blade over the past decade.Eventually the blades wear out (get dull),and it's time to purchase a new tool.Takes a bit of trial & error to get the blade set to the right cutting depth. So, once you get the blade set for the type of wire/jacket you intend to use it for, you aren't going to want to readjust it for other jacket thicknesses, unless you really have to.Therefore, I keep two of these, each set to different cutting depths for my purposes, minimizing the necessity to painstakingly adjust the cut depth for different wire jacketing.Even though I cut about 5 different jacket thicknesses on a regular basis, I get by with only two of these tools: 1 for very thin jacketing, other for other varying jacket thicknesses.

The groove is deeper than I wanted but i have adjusted the blade and it is scoring my buffers just fine without damage.
