The squared paper is centimeter grid paper which is great to have with this product. You can download it for free from RonitBird.com. Click on "Games & Resources" and scroll down to see and download. You might also want to consider buying her excellent Ebook "Exploring Numbers Through Cuisenaire Rods". It is an invaluable resource which I purchased and use regularly for teaching with the rods.

Q: do these come in a box?

They come in a tray with a flimsy plastic lid. I would prefer a box.
