When an artist of the stature of Quincy Jones celebrates his 75th birthday you can be sure it's going to be quite a party. The show took place onJuly 14th 2008 at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival, an event with which Quincy Jones has a long and rich history, and the cream of musical talent turned up to serenade "Q" on this very special occasion. A concert with some outstanding performances.
Being in Montreux would be better, but this is a stunning record of a concert honoring "Q" when he was 75. The concert has about 20 tracks, with many of the best featuring the Swiss Army Band with Nathan East, Ledisi, Nils Landgren, Patti Austin, Herbie Hancock and others. The arrangements range over Jones' long and amazing career. And the younger musicians especially shine. There are some performances you can only hear on the Blu-Ray DVD, including Ledisi's amazing "If I Every Lose This Heaven." The sound is bright and first rate. The menu for navigating to individual performances is easy to use. And the video quality is excellent. If this was a studio recording Jones would have had some work to do. But part of the DVD's charm is the spontaneity of this live concert. .

Totally Amazing
The amount of talent on this video is astounding. To review just some of the marvelous music that Quincy has written and arranged is mind boggling. I am blown away by the gifts on this DVD, musician and vocally. They are some of the world's best. I am partial to Al Jarreu and James Williams, Chaka Chan, Nathan East, and Toots Thielemans, and Patty Austin. These incredible musicians take you to places in your mind where you see colors (without being high LOL) that can only be given by God himself. This is a great tribute to a man that is a living legend. Thank you Quincy for sharing your talent and exposing so much talent to the world. You have truly made your mark in the sands of time.

Quincy's compositions presented by multiple artists.
This presents Quincy Jones' wide variety of compositions, sung by multiple artists and groups. Audiophiles - The Bluray lists its audio as 5.1 surround, but my opinion is that the concert was originally recorded in stereo and processed in post into surround files. The surround sounded oddly indistinct, so I switched to stereo direct, and the sound was spectacular! If you buy it, listen in stereo. You won't be disappointed.

My man Q
This was a wonderful celebration of Quincy Jones. I have liked his music for as long as I can remember. My father loved jazz and Quincy was a favorite in our house. This tribute to him was deserving and the many stars and celebrities who performed made this an awesome experience to see. I am glad that I purchased this video. It was worth the money spent. Thanks Amazon for making it available. I really enjoyed this.

Wanted to Love it...Just misses mark
The premise and execution are first rate,I really wanted to give this concert five stars but ......After all it's a concert and the sound mix was definately lacking, poor sound staging, some instruments seeming lost entirely ( DTS HD Master included). For all of the extrodinary talent and musicianship assembled for this once in a lifetime event it left me wanting. The video was shot extremely well and I will watch it,probably just with the LPCM stereo mix

good issues
Explosive review from one of the greatest composers to ever live., The music is crisp and the cadences are easy to follow. As people that came of age in the 70s this is a must to have.

Quincy Jones 75th Birthday Celebration DVD...
I have been a fan of Quincy Jones as a Producer then latterly Performer since he produced "Off the Wall" MJs first truly solo album. This DVD is simply excellent and the very personal and skilled individual artist performances from some of the worlds finest musicians and singers only services to consolidate just how important Quincy's influence has been in the world of contemporary music from Classical to Jazz to Film to Pop - a true giant! Long may it continue so...

What a line-up
As I started watching the DVD on Blu-ray I was not only amased by the Picture quality but the line up that was on offer. MY only disappointment was not seeing another Genius BOB JAMES in the line up but he was represented well by his FOURPLAY collegues Harvey MASON, Nathan EAST and one former member Lee RITERNOUR. Al JARREAU looked splendid so was my fav all times woman JAZZ singer Patty AUSTIN. The are many more artists on offer and what a night it must have been at MONTREUX.If you are a true JAZZ fan this is one for your collection.

Quincy's triumph
An amazing gathering of great musicians, all together to celebrate Quincy Jones' 75th birthday and all playing great jazz. An enormous highlight for me was the appearance of Patti Austin who's albums I have collected for many years now but have never had the opportunity to see her perform. This was just great! Also Chaka Khan who is a legend. Joe Zawinul and Patrice Rushen, Nathan East are all wonderful musicians, and without knowing he was included, there was a great appearance from Australia's James Morrison, who played trumpet and later trombone. The "a cappella group" Naturally 7 was an absolute standout!Well worth the investment for jazz lovers.

What's not to like?
This show leaps out of the screen and speakers at you. I am over 60 and EVERY artist on here knocks me out (especially Naturally 7!!!).... even Pet Clark. I didn't get the Bluray version but the big band sound in DTS on Let The Good Times Roll is the best ever on my great home cinema system. If you think you MIGHT like it then just go ahead and buy because you WILL!!
