Henry Scott Tuke Paintings from Cornwall

Henry Scott Tuke was an exceptional artist. His portrait skills were as fine as the best of England and the U.S. Draftsmanship as good as there was. Nautical studies/ship architecture of the highest order; seascape/seashore studies of youth were and are impeccable. The writing, however, is rather dull and uninspired. Too much chronological page turning; this followed by this, followed by this. Very little insight into the artist himself. He was a portrait artist in demand as any of his time, a distinguished club sailor, an artistic intellect cherished by his peers. The authoress seem more engaged in plodding through calendar pages. The catalog of paintings is useful; some of the most renowned pieces, however, seem to have slipped through the cracks. Details of models, locations, ships are largely left to the reader to discover. Above all, seeing Tuke's body of work collected and laid out was worth the price of admission.

Nice variety and cross-section of Tuke's work. Handsome and sturdy book.

The images are unacceptably badly printed. You are much better off to google the painter and look at his paintings online. They look wonderful online. The book’s images, on the other hand, appear out of focus and faded looking. The crispness of the images is totally gone. Don’t waste you money! Extremely disappointed!

A little disapointed in the small pictures and too much print. Priced too high.

Received a copy for my birthday. Book smallish in size and therefore photos of works small. Could have been better produced for the price.

A mere catalogue of H. S. Tuke's paintings from the The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society, in small to smaller formats. Informative but not enjoyable.

Nice book with a good selection of images of Tuke's paintings from different periods of his life. I recommended to anyone who wants to have an overview of his works.

The book is magnificent. The only down side is that it took long time for delivery as it came from Europe to Canada. I is well worth the wait. Totally recommend the book and the seller !

When I recieved the Publication of Henry Scott Tuke's "Painting from Cornwall" I was amazed at for the Ilustrationsit contained and the very 'Informative' written detailed it contained. I was recomended to obtain the delightull book by friends in the UK,I myself having lived abroard (MALTA) for some twenty years had lost touch with the books of such tallented painters like Henry Scott Tuke.I would firmly recomend this book to art lovers of his work both for his Human body studies and his Marine studies .Definitely a FIVE Star publication . A lovely book with great information and pictures.The book is big but not too heavy. I am really pleased with it.
