Amazing and brilliant recording!
An amazing recording, absolutely brilliant, alive and full of energy in the music. Beautifully accompanied by Gil's sister Orli. Both musicians visibly seem to fully enjoy what they are doing, having a great time. Also, the recording quality is very good, and the inside setting very inspiring. In a heartbeat, I would include this Video Recording in the high quality category of Anne Sopie Mutter's Mozart Violin Concertos Live Recording (Salzburg, 2005), M.Rostropovich's recording of the Bach Cello Suites in the church of Vézelay, France (1991), Rostropovich's and Britten's timeless audio recording of the Schubert Arpeggione Sonata (1968), and many others more that somehow represent unique recordings of value.Great collaboration between music, musicians and technology, a must-have for Mozart lovers! Thanks for reading.

A remarkable series of true miracles
It's utterly amazing to me that (1) such beautiful music could have been written in the first place; (2) it could be performed so stunningly well by this or any pair of great artists; and (3) even in the best of situations, captured so intelligently and sensitively by camera and recording technicians. Sorry for the description which borders on trite hyperbole, but it's simply amazing to me such a piece of beauty could exist in this troubled world ...!

Mozart Violin Sonatas
This is a very nice performance of Mozart sonatas by brother and sister Shaham. Gil displays as always his highly polished technic which here does a lot to enhance the beauty of Mozart's pieces. Orly although not at his brother's virtuosity level does a good job of complementing the ensamble. The beautiful venue helps also to establish the proper mood for listening to this timeless composer's work.F ArcosNew Jersey, USA

Best Style and Playing!
Clean and beautiful sound as usual his recording.......the only thing can criticize is her posture, this comment is only personal, but if you close your eye, everything is perfect!

Transparent Mozart sound
The violin sound is very transparent and clean. The piano and violin are played by a sibling pair and it is very well matched. The piano key touch timing is nice. Pianist is very cute. This gave me very fresh inpression compared with Clara Haskil and Arther Grumiaux. The sound is very nice.

Mozart Violin Sonatas Gil and Orli Shaham
I saw this show on television and I had the urge to have it. Now I have it on DVD. It is an excellent performance. The performers are obviously great artists, but the production as a team work is outstanding.

Outstanding - 'must have' issue
These 6 violin sonatas by Mozart, in treating the two players as partners rather than treating the violinist as an accompanist to a dominant pianist, was a new departure in his compositional style of such pieces. His earlier violin sonatas had been written for his sister and himself to play and were referred to as sonatas for piano with violin accompaniment! These sonatas recorded here resulted from hearing two-part work by Joseph Shuster in 1777 leading Mozart to making the following comment `I'm enclosing 6 of the Schuster's Duets for Clavicembalo e Violino for my sister. I've often played them here, they're not bad. If I stay here, I'll write 6 myself in the same style, as they're very popular here.' The direct result was the 6 sonatas recorded here and written in 1778.It would be hard to imagine a more sympathetic set of performances than these recorded by the brother and sister team of Gil and Orli Shaham. They are both thoroughly inside the performing style appropriate for Mozart and have faultless technique. Orli follows every move of her brother with rapt attention to every phrase and the result is as close as if hearing one person playing both parts! The camera work is clear giving a good balance of close detail and views of the pair. The sound is equally satisfying and is presented in DD 5.1, DTS 5.1 and stereo. The recording dates from 2005 and was made in the Palais Daun-Kinsky in Vienna without audience. This seems to be an uncontentious 5 star issue therefore and should give a great deal of pleasure to purchasers.

First rate playing
Gil Shaham plays masterifully and does Mozart beautifully. His sister is a very talented pianist in her own right and is the perfect accompanyist in this production.

wonderful playing, visually beautiful
I would agree with everything Scott Morrison says in his insightful review. These Mozart Sonatas are quite lovely, and they are presented here in an ideal setting - a most beautiful room which seems entirely right for the music - and with unfussy direction that never gets in the way of the music. As for the playing, I cannot imagine it being bettered. Ensemble is spot on, the performances have character, they are well paced and beautifully phrased and the sound is a delight to the ear. Mozart wrote the sonatas for piano and violin, not the other way round, and in fact the pianist has slightly more to do in all of them. Orli Shaham, more animated than her brother, is a marvellous player and the rapport between the two is striking. It is in every way a beautiful DVD.
