Book received
Gave five stars since the book was received fairly quickly and I am satisfied with the service. Although it was the edition from 10 years ago. I guess it was why it is so affordable.

Stop Running Away from Federal Jobs!
This book is perfect for the "chicken hearted" when it comes to applying for federal jobs. Kathy Troutman takes us step by step through the process. Each step is explained thoroughly and then numerous examples are given. Buy the book, relax, read each step and work through the process. A must for all who are federal employee "wanna bees"!

An Excellent Resource
As a former federal personnelist and now a professional job searcher and writer/editor of federal style resumes and KSAs, I can tell you that this book is an excellent resource for the federal job seeker. The chapter on writing KSAs alone is worth the price of the book, since this seems to be a major hang-up for those seeking federal employment. The section, "Writing the Unwritable KSA" is invaluable. There are numerous sample resumes, KSAs, and templates in the book and on the accompanying CD-ROM and links to a "document builder" web site. If fact, your resume and KSAs are practically already written for you. All you have to do is fill in information about your own experience. There are however a few shortcomings: There is scant information on grammar and proper usage. Also, there is no information on writing the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) for Senior Executive Service (SES) positions. I find this to be inexplicable since this is a book on federal employment. SES aspirants will have to look elsewhere for help or pay Troutman's company to write their SES packages. Finally, there are only a few examples of resumes or KSAs for GS-13/14/15 level positions. Most of the examples provided are for entry, mid-level, and Wage Grade positions.

Waste of Time
Someone let me borrow this book so I could apply for federal jobs and I'm here to tell you it's a waste of time. I've been in my line of work now for a little over 5 years now. Everytime a federal position came open at the agency I contract for and I knew I was qualified to do, I applied. I followed the steps offered in this book and it got me no where. Fresh college graduates who knew nothing about what was done at this agency and never even heard of it before applying were getting selected for an interview over me. Why? Because federal positions don't look for KSAs anymore nor do they review resumes until the interview process and because of this, good candidates are being passed over in favor of liars who were taught to cheat the system.
