A sphinx was a legendary creature in Egyptian and Greek mythology. In Egypt the sphinx was made with a lions body and a human head, which was build as the guardian of temples and pyramids, such as the Sphinx of Giza. In Greek mythology the sphinx is a creature with a head and breasts of a woman, body of a lion and wings of an eagle, who was sent to punish the people of Thebes that had displeased the gods. She ate all of which could not solve this riddle: 'Which animal has first four legs, then two legs then three legs?'
