I like the idea that all of these interactions are happening ...
The story has a repetitive, soothing rhythm. It tracks a few different animals chains in a pond environment. I like the idea that all of these interactions are happening a stone's throw from a girl in her house...nature is not an abstract concept: it is at work all around us, everyday. The story sparked a good discussion with my (6 yr. old) son one on one. My kindergarten class -who generally struggle with attention- were not riveted. The illustrations are absolutely stunning. I am in love with how the illustrator uses the natural grains of the wood as ripples in the water or clouds in the sky.

Wonderful Book
I had borrowed this book from our Library and it was enjoyed so much by the 4 year olds in our group, that I ordered it. It is a good book to carry over with art projects and lesson plans. This book would appeal to much older children as well. Definitely one of the books I will keep for generations and share with other classes at school.

Great read and educational too!
Great book about food chains. It is realistic but not overly graffic. My 3 and 4 year olds loved it and by the end understood that animals eat other animals but it doesn't make them "bad" just hungry. Lol great repetitive story.... same style as "The House that Jack Built".
