Used on my meadow in combination with a scythe...
Now that I've given my lawn over to meadow flowers I only need to mow it a couple of times a year.Starting the petrol mower so infrequently was often a challenge for me, and tall vegetation was a challenge even for the petrol mower. It quickly became apparent that my motor mower was no longer the best tool for the job - Time and money spent in getting fuel and routine maintenance looked less worthwhile compared to just a little bit more time and effort spent in the garden. Indeed for my 150m2 patch of green the the only advantage I could see from the petrol mower was its ability to create neat stripes... but that's no longer my aesthetic; swaying flowers and butterflies and bees are.My solution has been to firstly start with a scythe. The benefit of a scythe is that it's faster than a strimmer and, done well it piles up the grass to one side in a long line that's easy to gather.Once the hay cut has been taken, that's when this push mower comes into its own, keeping any further growth trim and tidy from autumn until the following growing season.During the summer months the push mower is used to mow a neat path and maintain a short tidy looking meadow border; a mere stroll pushing the mower from the shed, around the boundary and back. This can often take less time than it would just to prep and start the petrol mower after few months idle!My front lawn is still mostly grass, however, next year the high 4" cutting level of the fiskars will enable me to plant low growing wildflowers among the grass and to maintain it as a low flowering grassy meadow. This will render my petrol mower entirely redundant.SO! having decided on a push mower the Staysharp Max seemed a worthwhile investment on account of its power efficiency - why make things hard for myself!I rate it 5 stars for all the positive reasons listed in other reviews.I subtract no stars for issues listed by others, particularly complaints regarding long grass - that's what a scythe's for.Scythe + Push mower + Rake takes up a LOT less space thanWeed Wacker + Motor Mower + Leaf Blower + Fuel + Oil + Tools + Ear Defenders + Safety wear& a lot less maintenance - we can leave all that to commercial gardeners.
