Fishes of the Maldives: Indian Ocean Paperback – 31 Jan. 2014

The most comprehensive and useful Maldives fish guide I have found that is light enough to take on holiday. I have happily used the original book for years but I bought this revised edition because of the additional chapter on rays and sharks. However I am disappointed in the quality and smaller size of some of the photographs compared to the first version , particularly as it was an expensive purchase.

Top book if your going to the Maldives

Probably the best book for identifying fish in the Maldives (note: I said fish, not fishes). A lot of very useful formation about the Maldives in general besides the marine life. Some anomalies though, the two 'manta' rays listed have been re-classified as mobulids since 2017 and this book was supposed to gave been updated with such data in 2018. Also, the mention of gill rakers is incorrect, they are gill plates. Probably a bit heavy to take with you given measly airline baggage allowances; there may be a digital version which would be better fit travel.

This is a fairly comprehensive guide, but I could not find some of the frequently spotted fish species.Images are not very clear.
