I’ve recently added an electric bug zapper to my outdoor space, and it’s been great thus far. Although the recent cold snap has limited our use, I’m hopeful that as the weather warms up, this zapper will prove its worth by keeping those pesky insects at bay. So far, it’s been a promising solution for enjoying our evenings without me getting eaten alive by mosquitos.

Since it's winter here, I have less flying insects in the house than during the spring or summer. What drew me to the YISSVIC zapper is that you never have to change bulbs. My old brand of bug zapper stopped working after I changed the bulbs. I don't know how well the lights of this zapper attracts bugs over true UV light like my old unit. Although the description says the bulbs are filled with UV light (?) it doesn't look like true UV next to a 395nm light. I didn't think it was working at all at attracting/killing bugs, but one day I noticed a but stuck on the grid inside. It is silent. My old zapper would scare me sometimes when it zapped a bug. It was loud. Hoping to see more action when spring and summer are here.

Taking away a star because while it does attract the bugs I've been dealing with, it doesn't always kill them all, kinda weird. It seems the smaller flies die much easier, however just even a little too big they fly away unharmed. However as the main reason I purchased this was to keep flies from entering our side door which doesn't have a screen door to prevent flies, it still is serving the purpose. It acts as a scapegoat, which I can just let sit by the outside door and no flies tend to get in. They usually hover around it and fly off if they do survive.

*Update 3/31/2024*After leaving it on for a few months, it did end up killing a good number of flying bugs...most of which are Mosquitoes. I think it just needed to be a dark corner at night and be the only source of UV around.We have a mosquito problem, ever since the invasive asian tiger mosquitos came to California. It has also been a wet winter, and I'm their favorite choice of food for some reason. I got this to try and help mitigate all the bite that my family and I have been getting, especially since vector control posted signs saying they have detected West Nile virus in the mosquito population in the area.However, this bug light is pretty much useless. It feels cheaply made, with mostly plastic construction, except for the metal grates and light bulbs. The bulbs run pretty dim compared to my other bug light. The grate is also only on side of the lights and is fairly widely spaced. I can see how a mosquito can easily fly in and out without getting zapped. I had it in my garage (where we get an influx of mosquitoes every time we open the door), for 2 weeks and it has killed exactly zero mosquitoes. I also put in the living room and for a couple weeks and the kids have killed more mosquitoes that it has. Definitely avoid this bug zapper if you have flying insect problem.
