Early Bird: The Power of Investing Young

A must read for young (or novice) investors!
This book is such a gem and a truly powerful tool for young investors. Maya taps into her wealth of knowledge and experience to make some very complicated topics seem almost easy, and definitely exciting. The layout of the book makes you want to keep reading, moving seamlessly from interviews with experts in the field, to helpful charts that demonstrate tricky topics, to novice-friendly analogies. Maya's passion for and grasp on investing shine through the pages and infect the reader. Her step-by-step guides for calculating specific metrics and accessing helpful websites empower the reader to try for themselves this very exciting adventure that is investing. Early Bird is almost sneaky about how much information it packs into its pages and I don't doubt anyone who reads this will want to immediately put into action the tips and tricks Maya shares. I wish something like this had existed for me when I was a little younger, because if it did, I'd have myself a much bigger snowball. Thank you Maya!

Covers important investment topics in an easy to understand way. Ideal for readers of all ages looking to get started.
Young Maya has hit the ball out of the park - Early Bird is an incredibly well written book about investing. The author discusses the key investment pillars crucial to long-term investment success, namely what makes a business great (economic moats), how to find such businesses (screening, "look in your driveway"), how to determine the price to pay for a business (valuation ratios and ranges), and what makes an investment great (the power of compounding).Equally importantly, she discusses these complex investment topics in an easy to understand way. This book is a great gift for readers of all ages looking to get started in investing.

An Investing Resource You'll Actually Enjoy Reading
I never thought I'd enjoy reading a book on investing - give me a good historical fiction or travelogue any day - but the author does a great job of providing solid insight into the stock market for novice investors. It's the kind of book that you wish someone had given you when you were young but it's a valuable resource for readers of any age if learning about the stock market is something they've always wanted to do but didn't know where to start. Oh, and the price can't be beat!

I teach adults with no finanace experience personal finance and this book nailed it! It explained complicated concepts really well. I look forward to seeing what Maya Peterson does in the future.

many helpful tips for the beginning investor
This is an excellent starter book for anyone who wants to learn the basics of how to buy good companies at good prices. My favorite chapter is "Getting Started," where Maya says we should look at what's in our driveway, what's in our kitchen, and what's in our pocket, for stocks for further research. And, the chapter on competitive advantages ("Economic Snowball Fight") explains a complex topic in simple terms that we all can understand and apply. The implications of the compounding table on page 18 should be discussed in every high school econ class.Hopefully as Maya's investment journey continues she will publish a second edition, third edition, etc.

Bought two copies, one for my daughter, a college sophmore, and another for my girlfriend's daughter, who is graduating college this spring. I am sure this book will help guide them and set them up for success. Which I had read a boo like this 35 years ago!
