Great board, outdated chip
If you're relatively new to working with ESP microcontrollers, you should be aware that the ESP8266 these boards use is obsolete these days. You can get ESP32-S3 boards for the same price which have much better specs. It really depends on your use-case, the 8266 is plenty capable of anything you'd use an Arduino (atmega series) for, but if you plan to do anything CPU or network intensive, the higher clocked dual-core, more flash/RAM, and better onboard peripherals of the ESP32 series will make a big difference. I didn't know this when I got them and have since switched. That being said, these boards are well-made and work fine. Had no issue using the Arduino IDE to program them, including OTA via wifi. Also tried out the 8266 port of micropython with no issues. You do not need to hold down the boot button when flashing like you do with some boards. There is a blue power led and another blue LED connected to pin 2. Oddly this led is reversed so it's on when the pin is low and off when the pin is high. So while I'd strongly recommend an ESP32-based board over 8266, if you specifically need an 8266 these will get the job done.

Working well so far
Programmed with the Arduino IDE (needed to install the ESP8266 board driver). Working like a charm so far for monitoring temps and relaying the readings to a cloud database.

Purchased for LED control over wifi. Did a solid job. 2 other nodemcu boards did not work with WLED. I recommend this one.

Great DIY board
These boards are awesome for DIY light projects for individuals who don't have a ton of programming experience. The USB-C on these is also great for projects that don't require a large power supply.
