Second edition same great content, better format
Re the cpmplaints that the CD or DVD is missing -- the second addition videos and sudios are NOW ON AN APP that is available for Android, Apple, etc. called Mcill Language Lab”.Click on “English“. My Book “Perfecting Your English Pronunciation“ the directions for getting an app are on the inside front cover of the book. The instructions are clear. And the app is amazing. So maybe before before jumping on Amazon to write a review you should actually look at what you bought. Rtfm as they say (in perfect Englis) .Update: I purchased the second edition of this book FOR THE VERY REASON THAT IT DID NOT HAVE A CD! My tablet does not have a slot for a CD, so having the 12 hours of content streaming via a web link is so much better. Plus it allows for more audio and video than the previous book. I can't understand people giving bad reviews for the reason that there is no CD -- that's not a flaw, that's a feature! There are explicit instructions on the inside front cover on how to download the publisher's language lab app too. But hey, if you can't be bothered to read directions, don't blame the product. My review of the usefulness of this for accent reduction stands, but the new edition is even better because there are more examples to watch and listen to.After viewing the DVD and reading this book, I am buying it for a friend who has a thick Eastern European accent, which, while charming to his friends, he feels has impeded his ability to attract clients in the United States (he is an engineering professional). This may not be fair, it may not be respecting of diversity, but it is a reality in his business world. When people learn English, the focus is on teaching vocabulary and grammar - leaving learners to acquire pronunciation on their own, by exposure and by trial and error. This book finally explains the anatomical mechanics of pronunciation -- the tongue, teeth, and lip placement necessary to make certain English sounds. The explanations and exercises in the books and on the audio shorten EXPONENTIALLY the time needed to pronounce the vocabulary words most ESOL teachers focus on imparting. There seems to be nothing else like it on the market. Perfecting Your English Pronunciation is a great resource for business executives, medical professionals, educators, and anyone whose career depends on the ability to be understood, in English, by clients. It is a great investment at a very reasonable price.

From the Author:
From the Author:To those who have complained about a lack of CD/DVD or broken links – that is not the format of this second edition of my book. The 11 hours of audio and one hour of video are on a streaming app which you can download with either Android or iOS. It is called “McGraw-Hill Language Lab”.Open up the app in your App Store. Click on “English“. My Book “Perfecting Your English Pronunciation“ is the seventh book down. All word lists, phrases, sentences, and other exercises from the book are on audio. Under the video portion of the app are video demonstrations of the position of all of the difficult sounds. The instructions for downloading the app are on the inside front cover of the second edition of the book. My apologies if this wasn’t clear to some people.Thank you!Susan Cameron

Too much work for a newcomer.
I bought this to hopefully give to a Lyft driver who didn't speak English well but who wanted to improve his/her accent. Unfortunately, it is not at all a quick solution and, imho, amounts to almost a semester's worth of work to complete. There are apps now that do similar functions and are probably a better choice.

useless without audio and video files
I purchased this book a week ago, have been trying to contact author through her website, and no answer after sending two emails.I have not been able to find the audio nor the video files on any website, so the book is completely useless, and I am returning it this week.

Such an excellent book!
This is a must-have for any ESL teacher or anyone interested in tweaking their accent for a North American sound. It has excellent media in addition to very thorough lists and comparative exercises to train one's ear and tongue.

Amazing Book and great audio files!
The audio and video files are really useful and well thought out. As a French native speaker, this book helped me a lot. Thank you!!

Broken or nonexistent links to video files
I couldn't do the exercises because the links didn't work. That kind of defeats the purpose of having linked files.
