speechless
I am 81 and developed my love of reading as a sickly boy in rural Ireland. I have read, literally, thousands of books. This is one of my three best loved books of all time. I wished that it had never ended! It is a wonderful read, beautifully written and for me unforgettable.

Sweet with tension
Sweet story, set in Scotland. Wonderful appreciation of nature. Loved the mystery of a death. Wondering if the two main characters would reunite. Recommend highly.

Likeable Characters, Strong Sense of Scotland
I read a book a long time ago called Morning Glory. The storyline was similar, which is good;I liked Morning Glory all those decades ago. This author really captured the Scottish Highlands in the wild. The characters were strong and relatable. I love a character with courage. The characters displayed their moments of weakness, but were reminded of lessons learned. The courage that they showed in their difficult moments were a good reminder that courage isn't courage unless it's overcoming real fear.

Good enough story…
I liked the start of the book and the whole premise. I liked the characters. But it sure did drag. I think the last half of the book should have moved faster…a lot of the things she did to get back home was unnecessary. And the whole mystery was never really solved as to “who did it” and “why.” It was just all wrapped up with a pretty bow. I flipped through the last quarter of the book and skimmed it. Didn’t miss anything. Don’t be swayed by all the wonderful reviews.

A beautiful story
A beautiful story about beautiful people with hearts of gold. I absolutely loved the book. There were tears of sadness and anger but also smiles, laughter and joyful feelings as I read the book.

Rare kindness in a world way too busy
Such a beautiful story of kind people helping each other witout expectations of anything in return. The tragedies that could easily have ruined the lives of three young people, the residence they showed was moving. This book will restore your faith in people.

Great descriptive language
What can I say about this book, apart from an amazing read?I loved the descriptive language of the characters, the locations and of the travelling community. Although I don't know when this book was set, I felt the history through the pages. Two young lonely people meet at a lake, both searching for something, unknown to them. Their short but firm friendship comes to unabrupt end, through circumstances beyond their control.Their lives take them to pastures new, but they always at the back each other's mind.
