Look at the used prices if new doesn't matter!
The book is in good shape. We are using it in a small group study at church.

Who cannot be heard has no voice.
Once again, Brueggeman delivers a terse yet compassionate examination of what many either barely notice or ignore altogether - the silence of oppression. This book, from an unashamedly biblical perspective, peels back the veneer of the powerful “status quo” and brings to light the revolution against the powerful and entitled who enforce complacency. This is a book that pulls together the argument from numerous reliable authors who fuel Brueggeman's passion for giving voice to the silent oppressed so that it may be broken by those who can both hear and see it the plight of the shadows of the “have nots.” A remarkable, profound, yet understandable study from accounts in Scripture that elucidate one of the clarion calls of Jesus - liberty and justice "for everyone" in the Kingdom of God. Don’t miss it!

A prophet/poet of our time
Walter Brueggemann is a prophet for our day. This book is prescient to the protests and other civil actions in the last few months. We all need to come from our silence into the fore to voice our derp concern about present gov’t policies and systemic racism and economic injustice.

Necessary topic for churches today!
The book is excellent! The topic is something we need to be addressing in our churches nowadays. For those who haven’t explored theology or biblical interpretation, Brueggeman does a great job providing the necessary contexts for each passage he introduces. The only reason I give it 4 Stars is, as a theology/Biblical studies major, I found it lacking in depth. I wanted to go much deeper into the topics than the 100 page book did.

Great read
Thought provoking. As a born-again, progressive democratic Christian, this book opened my spiritual eyes to silencing within the church. Highly recommend reading this book, but more highly recommend reading the Bible through every year.

Fresh study of the silence and how to break it
Very interesting study of breaking of silence in different Old Testament and New Testament stories and the principles derived from it. I like it and certainly will use as the reference for the message series on similar topics. I loved especially the chapter about Jesus and Syrian women - eyes opener for me personally. Challenging my mind and pointing me to the scripture.

Very appropriate message our time.
I found the concept of the silencing and breaking the silence so repeatedly over the entire biblical period enlightening. I accept the scriptures and the US constitution to be very inspired but living documents whose meanings provide truth in every time and culture, not just the times and cultures when they were first written.

Encouragement to speak up and speak out - inspirational and challenging
Excellent study of key texts. Pushes exegetical boundaries somewhat in one or two cases but still inspirational in its challenge.
