Stunning and adorable story
Ever After is a sweet fairytale with adorable and likable main characters. It's all around a feel good romance, which was just what I needed at the time I read it, and I fell for it. There's plenty of angst because of the forbidden love: Merrick is a prince and his parents are waiting for him to choose a lady to marry, and Cassius is Merrick's new valet, who can loose everything with a wrong move, because the society is homophobic. There's also the power imbalance between Merrick and Cassius, although Merrick never missuses his power.Ever After gives serious Downton Abbey vibes. The book is described by the co-authors as wintery make-belief setting that isn't based on any specific time period, but for me it gave a lot of Downtown Abbey, especially when it came to the servants interacting with each other and with the people from upstairs. Anyway, while I liked the ambiguous setting and time period, I loved Cassius and Merrick, and their developing relationship. Merrick is a prince but he's all around a good guy, who prefers to be more modern and involved with the staff and subjects; instead of being cold and distant, he likes to play around in snow with orphan children and so on. Cassius is an introvert, who's a bit broody and prefers the company of his family and one friend at the castle, Valor. Together Cassius and Merrick are adorable, and I kept turning pages to see what will happen next. Another great point is how family is included and quite central for both Cassius and Merrick, for different reasons for both of them, although both have a loving family and devoted sisters.I wholeheartedly recommend Ever After if you're in need for something cute, adorable and sweet romance with a side of angst. It certainly is stunning one that deserved praise.

BEST AVOIDED
I read the second book and thought I would see how the series started. Big mistake. There is no tale fairy or otherwise. Just a series of sex scenes roughly thrown together. I would point out that you cannot insert a wet finger anywhere other than the mouth and call it lubricated. Dangerous, potentially injurious. Not the first time a female author has made this serious error. Beyond that l cannot imagine who this book is written for. Fifty shades of dreadful.

Ahhh. Sigh. If only the world was as simple as this.A modern take, loosely based on the traditional Cinderella fairy-tale, with strong characters and mild angst. No moustache twirling baddies, evil villains or third parties but a gentle read of two people who find each other, fall in love and have to overcome what looks like an insurmountable problem. As the writing flowed I got lost in this romantic story. There were some heart dropping moments but eventually an Ever After, as all good fairy-tales should have. All in all a feel good, light read that will surely warm the cockles of your heart.

go down for your Prince, and he will go down for you
It's not like any other book I have read, as it starts with the new valet point of view and thengoes to the Princeside of the story. That's how it goes, a few pages for the new valet, then i few pages for the Prince. But I am finding out that I just want to carry on to find out what's next. It's such a sweet story.

Sweet
Ever After was an adorable and swoon-worthy read. A great mixture of a modern and classic fairy tale.Cassius is the sole provider for his family since his father had died. He's working at the kings castle, his work ethic and loyalty to the royals has been noticed. Leading him to be promoted to the prince's valet. Cassius has mixed feelings for the royals but the more time he spends with the prince his mind and feeling start to change. The one problem this leads to is that Cassius is drawn to the prince in ways that are not acceptable. Trying to ignore his feelings and the pull towards the prince is getting hard each day. Until Prince Merrick is the one to make the first move.Merrick is next in line for the throne and his parents are pressuring him about his duty to the kingdom. In finding a wife, and producing an heir, something which Merrick is trying to avoid at all cost. His feelings have never fell towards a female and Merrick finds himself becoming amour'd by his valet Cassius. Merrick knows that nothing can come of this attraction, but he just wants one night, one night to be able to have what he wants and not what is expected of him."Do you still want me, my prince?""I have never wanted another the way I want you."EVER AFTER is sweet slow burn read.

I expected so much more!
I had high hopes for this story as I have devoured a lot of books by Riley Hart. The premise was a safe bet in terms of a solid story but it just didn't turn out that way. There was a lot of scenes that didn't move the story forward and I found a few characters that didn't need to be there.I understand the fantasy nature of the book however the formality of the dialogue made it very hard to read. Something like that could be expected from the King and Queen, and to a certain extent from the Prince in official situations. But Cassius was meant to be of a different class and speaking so formally didn't seem to work very well in my mind.As with all romance novels it was formulaic but it gave the story the push it needed. I wanted to see more relationship work before the epilogue and a lot more character development.A fairy tale needs a bigger barrier and higher stakes.
