Loved so much
This book was amazing it was even better than the first the story expanded so much looking forward to reading more soon. I still loved the characters I still love Maomao the most she is a really fun character to read about I really like her relationship with Jinshi it is an interesting one I am pretty sure he has feelings for her looking forward to where that goes. I loved many of the other characters as well as a few new ones that expand on Maomao's backstory. The plot was really good it picked up right where the story left off with Maomao working for Jinshi ho is most definitely more than he seems. There are many interesting mysteries that are solved one of the best ones involves Maomao and the character that I found out to be he biological father. I really loved this book will continue the series soon.

The author knows how to deliver a good plot
I love mysteries. I love how a story embroils you until it gets to that moment when everything starts to make sense. Initially I started reading this because of the anime but I stayed for the quality of the details, the rapture of the whole plot, and ofw course the characters. It took me awhile to get to the last 179 pages but once that I started I couldn't stop. The anime it's pretty good too.

Maomao's Continuing Adventures
The Chinese Imperial Harem Drama continues with book 2! Maomao remains perhaps the strongest female leads in volume two and we learn more about her past this volume. What were the circumstances of her birth? Why was her adoptive father, so talented with medicine, reduced to becoming a poor apothecary in the pleasure district? This novel is great at building characters up as real people without just shoving it down your throat in a lengthy bit of awkward exposition. This isn't just our wonderful lead Maomao either. Just who is Jinshi? His faithful attendant Gaoshun? The court is full of complicated plots and Maomao is always there to play detective, whether she wants the game or not. This is undoubtedly a seinen novel, but the romance does start to become more obvious this volume even though it's a long way off from being fulfilled. Jinshi is really unable to resist teasing when he ought to coax and Maomao is having none of it so far. Has there ever been such a pitiful male lead? You'll have your share of laughter this volume at Jinshi digging his own pits and happily jumping in. I wouldn't describe him as bullying per se, but there's a good reason Maomao views him as purely a troublesome employer. As always though, the focus is the plot and there sure seems to be trouble afoot this book with a greater conspiracy at play. Expect the usual mix of heartbreak, mystery, humor and a poison obsessed apothecary in the middle of it all this volume!

An excellent volume
I must admit this was an interesting yet strange volume in a number of ways, it was like the previous one well connected to each part of it. Yet especially towards the end it had a really interesting surprise but with certain obvious hints to certain things. Either way a good read looking forward to the next one.

Not Magical - More historical
A continuation of Vol.1 More a slice of life for a talented female apothecary in a 'ancient' chinese stylee court, said protaginist also engages in detective work - some adult themes but no overt ones.
